I have tried (and want to share with others) deleting (using IOBit Unlocker) the folder c:\Windows\System32\GWX - and it seems to work.  The unlocker seemed to think that the folder was NOT locked, which is good. No side-effects as far as I can tell.  Still in the testing phase, day 1.

Save the script in notepad in red as remove10nag.bat

Echo off

taskkill.exe /F /IM "gwx.exe"
takeown /a /r /skipsl /d Y /f "%windir%\System32\GWX" && icacls "%windir%\System32\GWX" /grant administrators:F
robocopy "%windir%\System32\GWX" "%windir%\System32\GWX_Old" /E
rmdir /s /q "%windir%\System32\GWX"

exit

And if you want to return it back to normal just use the script thats in blue and save as restore10nag.bat

robocopy "%windir%\System32\GWX_Old" "%windir%\System32\GWX" /E
rmdir /s /q "%windir%\System32\GWX_Old"
%windir%\system32\GWX\GWX.exe /tasklaunch

This is for the newer version of GWX Control Panel where you have gone past the point of what seems like no return where whenever you try to install your Windows version updates, Win 10 is there without any option to uncheck any boxes.

I too would recommend the GWX Control Panel - read the guide here:
http://blog.ultimateoutsider.com/2015/08/using-gwx-stopper-to-permanently-remove.html

It is also recommended by Woody Leonhard - Senior Contributing Editor at Infoworld.com
http://www.infoworld.com/article/2995915/microsoft-windows/unwanted-win7win81-upgrades-to-win10-can-now-be-stopped.html

This utility allows you to block and also remove all GWX related processes and data - while retaining the ability to restart the upgrade if you change your mind. The author will no doubt enhance the utility as and when Microsoft release new ways to sneak Windows 10 onto your computer.
