Title: External DVD Drive Not Recognized
Post by: samuksouth on June 02, 2013, 08:09:01 am
Hello

I have connected a external DVD drive to my MSI U130 notebook. For some reason the drive don't show in My Computer. To be precise, nothing shows the drive is connected when plugged into notebook.

However i have a system restore disc in the drive and it make the noise like it's trying to load when connected to notebook.

1, I have checked Device Manager and scaned.

2, Tried the drive on a PC and laptop, drive works great.

3, Tested the USB ports, all work fine.

Is there anything else i could try? I'd be greatful for any advise.

Thanks

Sam

step one; check with the manufacturer wesbsite to see if there is a bios or any driver updates

step two; check your services, auto plug and play,

I would start with step one;

MOst usb DVD drives are plug and play. If your system and not other system can see the drive then the drive is bad, or has a bad usb cable.

If only your system cant see it but an other system can then we know it is something on your system.

We just have to find the common factor :-)

Hi, I think it is a hardware problem. Please check the connection of power and cable to the dvd drive. Next, check whether shell hard ware detection is enabled in the services. This you can do by, going to run command and then type services. msc and then go to shell hardware detection item and see whether it is started . if it is not started then make it autostart. This is a hardware detection tool. If the power or data cable, the two cables connecting the dvd drive are found to be defective , then change them if need be.
