Title: Windows Update Error help
Post by: Willy2 on September 18, 2016, 11:39:26 PM
- MS provides some help to solve Windows Update errors. It has a webpage that actually gives (again) some help to determine what the cause could be for a number of errors. And what to do when such an error pops up. This assumes that one's system hasn't any corruption in the system files and/or in the infamous "winsxs" folder.

For me, there was no need to (extensively) test/use this webpage because all my Updates happened without a hiccup. Do readers of this post have any experience with this guide ?

I've never seen that before but it looks like a useful site - I normally just Google the error code which usually produces a possible fix, but they don't always work.

I recently had a 0x80070057 and came across the same solutions as that website produces.

I ended up having to download/run SURT - took ages :)

- The amount of error covered is still (fairly) limited. I had three errors that weren't included in the list. Perhaps MS is still busy adding errors to that list/database.

That's possible but I would have thought they have had plenty of practice at giving errors their codes, even if some are classed as unknown errors.

But what about sub error codes.

Here is a list of update error codes - https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/938205 and this article has some useful links to other error codes

Are these what you mean by "sub error codes" ?
