Yes , what you are describing is what I observe also , but I can not offer any explanation for it.

Did you try the "clean install " tool that Samson suggested in Reply #5 above ?

Hi, After log on today, i tried the tool, the first try pops up the normal scan screen. But second try ,onwards, it is working properly. So, could i assume that the problem lies in triggering the first time the mbam.exe. But Samson idea found to have worked for someone. But not for me. Again, i will try samson solution, and report back.
                                Is it possible that , it first option is always to update the data base, so would it be there the cause . When i click, if the mbam opens immediately the UAC, i am confidant of its working. But if it takes some more seconds, i am sure that the other screen is going to show and it is always.
                             

I'm sorry to hear that this is still causing you so much trouble .

Until I read your OP I happily lived with right-clicking twice ( see my earlier post )

You may be on to something regarding the first launch forcing an update ( since last boot ).

One thing I have noticed is that I only ever have to "double-launch" the app the first  time I use it  ,
it then works perfectly until my next system boot .

It's a head-scratcher  :undecided:

Did you use Malwarebytes Clean Uninstall Tool  to uninstall?

Hello to all window 7 users that are having windows 7 update problems.
I've been trying to problem solve this issue for 5 days with no avail and found this fix on Tech Crunch

Hi,
                     Normally when you download a file and want it be scanned, it should only be scanning that file. The malware bytes, if i right click and select menu it opens the whole scan screen.
                          i tried umpteen times of uninstalling and re installing, nothing cured. If i opt for avast, it scans single file. Do any of you experience this phenomenon. What is the best fix.
                                i have asked the forum, and they asked me to uninstall and reinstall and some reg fix, The reg.fix worked one time, but again when i selected a file then it opens the whole scan, like updating, prescan, scan files, heuristic etc etc.
Is there any fix. I am using latest free malware bytes .

Same here .... I've been seeing this for some time now , on several different systems , but for me it's not a biggie

My work-around :- close the full-scan window , right-click again on the desired object and it does what is expected.

I freely admit that I have no idea what is different on the second launch :)

At first I thought it was a service failing to start but I could not find any service associated with MBAM , only with MBAE

It does PRECISELY that .

Choose the configurations ( options ) that you need and it will do exactly what you want ....
..... or what you SAY you want .

If it does not work for you , the problem is NOT with the program .

That's pretty much my intended strategy at this point.
Netstat is a long-time favorite of mine , and I'm certain there is no PUP stuff on my system ....
... I am fanatically opposed to all of that garbage :)

I originally posted because I'd hoped that someone knew of a network traffic log-file that I could look at .
But I've never heard of such a log , so I was fairly certain that it would be a long shot :)

As I mentioned earlier , it's doesn't seem right to name my main suspect without any proof.
I'm going to be keeping a sharp eye out for it happening again and I will pin it down  , and then post back here .

In the meantime , many thanks to all for the suggestions !

... to answer :-

Yes to the first .
< 2% cpu use with FF running and 10 or more open tabs.

I'm a regular user of Process Hacker , Dependency Walker etc so I've already been down that route.

I have one particular app I'm suspicious of but I'll wait for it's regular scheduled run later in the week
rather than force the issue now..

For now , I can only watch and wait , and hope to catch it if it happens again .
I have a couple of possible culprits in mind but it seems unfair to name them here without proof.

I'm wise to that sneaky behavior but no , I'm not on W10 ( and never will be ... Win telemetry being disabled )
I've also refused all of the well known poison  GWX updates

This happened on a W7 home premium 64-bit machine.
I know that many apps have "phone home" activity but nothing on this scale .

I'm also very security aware , keep things locked-down tight and run regular scans.
I'm running MBAM again as I write this but not expecting to find anything.

I don't use P2P or any torrent stuff .

I'm hoping that someone can point me to a log file that I can look at .

I noticed over 1GB upload from my machine on a day last week.

Does anyone know how I can trace the source ( after the fact as it were ) ?

I only know how I could have traced it while it was happening , and I didn't
notice it at the time it was going on .

My wireless network is well secured and my machine is the only device on it.
I have all Windows telemetry disabled so I don't think that was the cause .
