General Computer Support / Re: Cannot sign in to Windows 10 account
« on: June 19, 2017, 12:00:18 pm »
Thanks, however it was not Creators as I have had that for some time. Plus I deleted Old soon afterwards as I need the storage space --- it has dropped by about 10 GB to under 5 GB in a few days for no obvious reason. I am guessing it is because I am having to install duplicates of important apps to the local account as I cannot access them via the MS Administrators Account. I can get at some files and apps from the main account but not all, and none from the Store. At least I am able to to carry out some tasks, eg. emailing with Thunderbird as Mail has gone. I cannot launch Edge but other browsers are OK.

I have in mind to try the MS Chat techs again int the hope this time I will not get cut off next time.

My apologies, that was somewhat vague! At the time I could not remember what the response was, only that it did not work, so I used an unhelpful catch all label. What had happened was that each time an error messaging saying something like the Restore procedure was damaged and could not work. No Restore action was launched.

Since then I have attempted Restore from my new local Admin account. This time the computer did  carry out a (long) 'restoration' but alas it has not resolved the issue. because it took Windows back to a point after the signin failure. I was not surprised because the oldest of the R Points available was only just under thee days old, two older R Points had been automatically removed (I suspect as a result of new ones created by the two big Windows updates
during the last week?)

I have always been mystified by Windows removing the oldest RPs which seems to me to be the opposite of what it should be. It was explained to me once by a technician but I admit I did  not understand the explanation. I dont see the point of removing older RPs which are surely the ones most likely to take the PC back to a working state.

Anyway, I am back to square one, trying to get to grips with using the local Admin account, something I have not done before.

General Computer Support / Cannot sign in to Windows 10 account

I am unable to sign to my MS account in Windows 10 and --- I having to use my limited unfamiliar Administrator local account or my Android device. I suspect something in the signin procedure was damaged by my use of an aggressive uninstaller..  The problem is only with my computer, as online I can signin to my Windows account and Outlook.mail  etc. After 7 attempts I have so far failed to get it sorted out by MS  Support techs, mainly because I keep getting cut off prematurely for a variety of reasons, such as updates arriving.

I would welcome any advice on how to get back into my account.

Thanks for your response. The services and their dependencies all appear to be running and automatic. I restarted them anyway, to no effect.
Groove is just one example, everythin else using sound is kaput: VLC, Media Player, Photos and Films, speakers, the webcam, microphone and recording and so on.

There is a detailed fix for the November update bug (which trashes the Store and many apps). It does not require a re-install, but some effort, although the explanation in a nine page article is clear (even for me), with step by step instructions for each app. It does work, I had restored a handful of apps with the author's help when I had to do a re-install, so I no longer need to work through it all. For others who still need it here is the Link:

Good luck!

A few weeks go all sound disappeared from my Windows 10 2-in-1 Tabllt: speakers, microphone, system. All the usual fixes have been tried, such as updating / rolling back drivers. Every audio app, such as Groove, report that they cannot play. Microsoft technicians were unable to fix it, via Chat, and suggested I do a fresh re-install, which I only accpted because it was said it would also deal with the November update bug. It solved that, but did nothing for the sound, including not being able to activate Cortana, though search is OK.

I get notifications such as Windows audio End Point Server, at least one of two services isn't running.  The error code from Groove is OxOOd36fa

I would welcome advice on how to get the sound services back

I agree with you entirely, about the absence of any reaction from Microsoft to this issue since November. I have been hoping for a fix this month ie. January. There seems to be no sign of it, in fact I have discovered another problem which may be related, the freezing of the link to Windows Gadgets in the Control Panel and my inability to install new Gadgets.

I made a small contribution about this issue in a sticky at the start of this forum a while ago. Now I will try to follow this detailed thread, although much of it is too complicated for me so I hope you will eventually come to a simple solution I can cope with! My limited understanding is that there was a bug in the November update which gets triggered (usually) by PowerShell commands to re-register apps.  This is a quote from another forum:

"Never ever run that powershell command to repair apps. All it does it breaks apps that only a refresh can fix. You have been warned."

I used IOBIT Driver Boost, highly recommended by a tech who has a Facebook page. Rolling back is not always possible (option greyed out) or if possible does not work. But IOBIT sent me a link to a tool which did work for a while, although the problem has reappeared.

Yes, I have rolled back successfully, except for the webcam -- only one of the cameras is working at the moment. I did not want to use restore unless necessary as there were nearly 30 drivers involved and I did not want to have to update so many again.

Following a notification that I had a number of drivers which were 'very old' I updated them.

As a result I have lost the following hardware, which are not detected as being installed:

 1. The battery --- there is no battery power
 2. Sound ---- there are no audio devices
 3. The webcams --- no camera or video devices are detected

What must I do to get them back?

Thanks, that was helpful. After a few failed attempts I got F8 working --- it seems my original Command Prompt had not registered for some reason.

Having a way to get into SafeMode from before[/b boot must be essential in some circumstances. There is a way to get SafeMode with Network as I have done it once, following phone instructions, but I do not remember the procedure --- I will have to search for it.

Thanks for your reply.

I still cannot cannot get into Safe Mode with Networking or get F8 to launch Safe Mode (I have entered the Command Prompt Admin).

1. Networking. I select 'Safe Mode with Networking' ---- as  soon as the network icon appears it shows there is no connection, followed by a notification that there is no connection. If I then try to connect or if I try to diagnose the connection it says this cannot be done while in Safe Mode and I must reboot. This was the same when the OS was W8.1. I have never been able to launch SafeMode with Network, something of a handicap.

2. Using F8.  In the article for which you provide a link there are important basic steps omitted, not helpful for a newbie or in my case someone who has forgotten the procedures years ago ---- such as at what point do you press F8, immediately after entering the password? presumably you use both the Fn and F8 keys together? (I have tried it with and without) do you hold the key(s) constantly until in SafeMode or, as I seem to remember, keep tapping the F8 key? Either way it does not work.

The procedure takes so long one is inclined to think it is failing and stop the action before it takes effect.

Clarification will be greatly appreciated! In the meantime I will keep trying.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Questions following Repair download

I have just downloaded Repair, so that it will be available if / when I need to use it. Having read the advice I have a few questions.

I presume it is not relevant to the major issue some of us are having with the Windows 10 (mainly) Microsoft Store apps failing to work.  I have posted on the sticky about this.

I am not able to get into Safe Safe Mode with Network. I have tried several times. I could not do this before I upgraded from Windows 8.1 either.

Regarding advice to remove the battery. I have a 2-in-1 Tablet. I believe removing the battery from these is not a practical proposition for non-techies.

I came across this --- I cant remember where. Simple, but doesn't Refresh remove many of your programs / apps? I don't want to do that.

If someone has the same problem do the following:
 Open CMD as Admin
 Then Type in:"shutdown /r /o"
 Wait about 20sec
It will now get you to the Advanced Recovery of Windows
After That click on Troubleshooting and click on Refresh my PC.
Wait for it to do its thing about 10min.
And your apps should work now.

I have been struggling with this issue for some time, most of my Microsoft apps have failed, plus some others. I have tried a variety of fixes, none of which have worked. I have been hoping Microsoft would soon issue a solution, I am very reluctant to attempt a refresh/reset/reinstall. So I am relieved to have found this forum and thread, as I feel if I keep returning here I will eventually see the answers I need.
