I bought/installed a Brother all-in-one  1 or 2 months ago that is compatible with Win 7. Everything has been working fine (both wi-fi and cable connection).

This past week, I went into Devices and Printers to click on the PC icon at the top left and I was shocked to have the Brother Scan window open instead! I have been trying to find answers and I chose to run Tweaking Repair Tool to no avail.

It would seem when I did the hard boot and went into Safe Mode to run Tweaking repair tool, this problem does not exist when I open Devices and Printers - seems to be just my user account. This is s true pain because I have spent a LOT of hours to get old programs installed, including problematic programs like Adobe Master Collection, and getting this machine set up to do some stuff I can't do on Windows 10. So, now that I am almost done doing everything I find this problem!

I should add, I ran the Repair Tool, system tweaks, even resetting the printer spool (I think it was called) and it diid not fix it.

Anyone know what is going on here? I am concerned if I uninstall all the printer software, will it actually fix the problem, or will it still be a hidden issue that messed up the system somehow? I am truly confused - never seen a problem like this on anybody's computer.

I decided to play some music and I was able to turn my speakers up to 100% without having issues.

I went to enhancements because loudness equalization will help and sometimes mysteriously gets shut off, guess with updates.

It's on! I played with it and then went to device manager and looking at the volume mixer, etc and realized that Windows removed the other sound driver I had. I have NO clue what driver it was, but it had a different name and was NOT owned by MICROSOFT!!!

So, now I am having to use the default volume and without LE on, at 35 and you hit the play test, you can't even hear it at all. GRRRRRR

And with this being an older computer and it's not listed online with this model, I have NO clue.

Also, read on another site that 4 Windows versions have intermittently hit people with their sound!

I am SO tempted to go to Linux and forego anything MS and sacrifice the things I DO like about MS.

Hi,

Windows 1809 really messed up my computer badly! I was one of the people who only got the update about a week or so ago. There were so many things messed up, I finally gave up, saved all my personal data to an external HDD and did a PC refresh or whatever it's called. It seems to have finally installed without a hitch (I think) and a lot of remnants of uninstalled programs finally seem to be gone. Other simple issues seem to be okay now.

Since the refresh (yesterday), I made sure Windows is fully updated (it installed some Win Defender updates), have only installed Adobe Flash, Firefox and the Tweaking.com WR Pro and Tecnicians Toolbox Pro.

Tonight, I went to use WR and when my computer restarts to go into Safe Mode, it sticks at the "sign-in page" and has an X in the internet connection icon (bottom right), only wants me to start wi-fi and re-enter my Network Security Key and will not leave this page. I have no sign-in option or anything. My only choice at this point is to click the restart/shutdown icon (bottom right) and come back to normal Windows desktop.

I am guessing it has something to do with the bcdedit that Shane is talking about, or again, maybe something else. All I know is Shane suggests to only run WR in Safe Mode so I decided to come here and try to get some help before I do much of anything else.

Thanks.

Hi Boggin and Shane,

I am still having the same problem with favicons not showing up on my desktop.

I checked out the links Boggin gave me:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/49819-icon-cache-rebuild.html
http://www.anvisoft.com/browser-repair-tool.html

Anvi said there were 17 issues with IE10 and 7 issues with Firefox but after it ran, the problem was not fixed. All Anvisoft really did, was to reset the browsers, which I can do on my own-I had to go back in and change everything all over again after it screwed everything up.

But this problem occurred while trying to fix the Flash and Java issues-which seem fine now.

I will show you the bookmarks for the fun of it.

I still think a folder got deleted or a registry key is messed up or something is going on. Everything was fine until I was messing with getting Java and Flash running properly...

I really don't want to do another System Image Restore since I finally have it so Flash and Java don't keep crashing...sighhh

What really gets me is everything was running like a top for a couple years and then after certain updates, things got hairy. And none of those companies want to admit it was their software...even when the problem started directly after the install. And the only reason I messed with Flash and Java is because I got tired of crashing all the time, but that came with a price (this new problem).

Thanks for any help, guys.

P.S. I am having a hard time finding the board, but someone (somewhere lol) was suggesting your video card software could cause this problem. If so, how could that be? And I am not sure what to do for that as I re-installed the vga software from ibuypower's website for my laptop...

UPDATE: Forgot to add the image. Left is IE10 and Right is Firefox 37

Hi Shane,

A long story short: Trouble with Java and Flash suspected from crashes in FF mostly. After trying to reinstall in the past, I decided to do offline installs tonight. Java installed in the CP but not into FF.

I found 2 items addressing a similar scenario but I guess they assume you know what you are doing:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talk:Java#Security_alert
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/984026

I know this much:
I know FF37.0.1 is 32-bit.
I know it will be a .dll file I am guessing npjp2.dll (since the 2 articles are addressing older versions)
I found the  npjp2.dll file.

What I do not know:

In FF, I guess I actually want to copy/paste (vs. actually just moving) the .dll into the x86 folder and not just under my user name app data?
Also, I am not sure if I drop it in the main Mozilla Firefox folder or /browser/extensions or /components folder.

Not sure if I have to do anything with the WOW64 folder or anything else?

Thanks for any help you can give me; I don't know, this may be totally out of your realm, and if so, that's okay. But I am sure interested in figuring this method out to see if I have better luck.

UPDATE: Flash is now fixed in FF and IE. Java is fixed in IE.

I still need to figure out how to get the Java .dll over to the correct location in FF.

General Computer Support / Unsure what is going on... [SOLVED]

Hi Shane,

Okay, did the all-in-one-repair and simple tweaks (minus visual tweaks and win 8 stuff) and showed you my logs. (I have the Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Anytime Upgrade and 32GB RAM with 250GB SSD and all software and hardware have been updated)

Last night, I noticed my mouse acting all crazy. It would automatically cause a window to expand/default to normal size just by touching the top bar of a window. Then anything that had a checkbox was very difficult to check/uncheck. Then it was like single-click instead of double-click to open things. I went to mouse section and folder options in Control Panel and re-set them and even tried restarting the computer.

I should have stopped there before anything else.

I went ahead and opened the hidden Admin account to install Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection and after 3 attempts, I got it to install. Updates did not want to work-I manually installed their Application Update Manager and then managed to update all the software programs in the collection.

But that mouse was going even more crazy at that point. It would only flicker a drown-down menu or expanded list and would take great patience to get something to open, click, check, uncheck and so on. The other problem I have been noticing is if I try to place cursor to add or delete text, it will highlight the stuff next to it without me doing it, that also takes patience and then like in the browser address bar, normally you can click there and have the entire URL highlight, but it doesn't want to do it on FF or IE.

Then problem with staying logged in to Adobe's website and certain stuff not connecting.

Anyway, been going through each program and all seems fine.

However, when I logged off of Hidden Admin and came back to this account, for the first time, I immediately got the BSOD!

I have never had this problem up until using the tweaking programs so I am very concerned Windows did not like something that got done to it with these 2 programs?

Granted Adobe has been a pain to install and I have been working on it since January 22nd, but never had one issue with the OS or other programs and hardware.

I tried doing a search for these, but it's either people talking about AVG, or needing to upgrade network driver...and while searching, I started having the strange thing that 2 browser windows will open whenever I click a link.

IF I have to, I can do another system image restore, but then I am back to square one with reinstalling Visual Studio and then the dreaded Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection...but wondering if there is a simpler fix? This just kills me, never had this kind of problem until this week with all the tweaking...

I just found reference to Killer e2200 network card which I have; maybe it got corrupted through the network tweaks? I will try to reinstall that and see if anything seems better.

The BSOD said:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
If BSOD again, uninstall hardware or software before BSOD...
Then disable BIOS Memory options such as caching or shadowing

Tech Info:

*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0xFFFFF880072CD000, 0X0000000000000002, 0X0000000000000000,

*** e22w7x64.sys - Address FFFFF8808619254 base at FFFFF88008600000, Datastamp 4f56a8b5

MAN! Took me forever to type this with the mouse issues.

UPDATE: I got the video and network cards reinstalled and reinstalled firefox and at least desktop icons came back. Mouse is still strange even after trying to uninstall and reinstall...

Since I haven't done anything else too major, do you think I should run Tweaking tools again, since I installed Adobe CS5.5?

Hi Shane,

Thanks so much for agreeing to look at these logs.

Since I am brand new to this, I just want to make sure all looks fine to you or if there's a problem I need to fix. This way, hopefully, I will know what I am doing in the future.

If all seems okay to you, can I delete the backup logs too?

I also ran the Simple Tweaking tool-did not do any of the visual tweaks as I like those toys for now lol.

Do you think I would also benefit from the CleanMem program?

I have: 250GB SSD and a 2nd 1TB HDD (used to store my docs/pics/music etc) in my laptop and 32GB of RAM. If it can help unburden the pagefile and keep memory doing most the work, then maybe I should?

If all systems go, I will then attempt to install my Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection again (finally).

Hi,

I have been having TERRIBLE trouble getting Adobe CS5.5 Master Collection to install properly. Started January 22, and still working on this issue. Tech support said sorry only CS6 gets tech support; I wrote a well worded letter and shockingly got a call from them 2 days ago. Problem is that they did NOTHING but sit there and hold my hand. Sure enough, it installed (like a car at the auto mechanics), updates started running. As soon as I said okay, thanks, will just wait for updates to finish...well, they took over 30 minutes and at the end fatal error. Since Jan 22, I have reinstalled Windows twice, did system image recovery at least twice and tried to put Adobe CS5.5 on at least 3 times. And they also have a "clean uninstall tool" that still does NOT remove everything! And believe me, Adobe recognizes kin from a mile away!

So, I decided to install the Tweaking.com Windows Repair (All-in-One) tool and ran it tonight (unchecked Win 8 items), as per your advice, in safe mode with networking. All seemed fine.

Then I decided to install and run the Simple System Tweaker. I did not do the visual tweaks at all and skipped a couple items on the other tabs because I did not know what they were, to be honest.

I used Firefox because I had a few questions to research and went to use Ctrl+F and it just would not come up for anything. I closed FF and tried again, nothing...2nd window open and it worked on the 2nd window and popped up at the same time on the first window. Then a bit later, could not get the command to work again, go to a 2nd window and it worked but did not pop up in the first window this time.

After reboot, I installed CCleaner because it is an absolute must to remove all the Adobe scraps. All seemed fine but still this silly qwerk with the find command (and I use it A LOT).

OH! And I just noticed another glitch: It took my S-Bar.exe away too! Not sure which things would be affecting those and not sure yet, if there's anything else wrong...

Quick update: I see that clicking on S-Bar it started up and I am able to use the hotkey buttons both on the bar and on the computer itself. But it's no longer in my startup manager in Nortons and I just checked msconfig and there's no longer an option there either...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
