After running the command chkdsk /f at boot to check your harddrive, Finding the log in event viewer can be hard to some people so I wrote a simple command to run in powershell after the computer boots up just type in this
Code: [Select]
(Get-EventLog -LogName Application -Source wininit | Select-Object -Last 1 -ExpandProperty message) | out-file -filepath $env:homepath\desktop\chkdsk.txt that should place a txt file named chkdsk on your desktop so you can easily view the log without having to navigate the event log and look for it.

Please take heed to any of these commands do a registry backup just in case these are all registry commands ran via powershell.
so this right here is a quick powershell command to make explorer open my pc instead of quick access.(windows 10)
Code: [Select]
Set-ItemProperty -Path 'HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced' -name LaunchTo -Value 1--note if you want it back just replace value 1 with 2
MY Computer =1
Quick access =2

and right here is a quick powershell command for the start menu's search bar. (hiding the big bar)
Code: [Select]
Set-ItemProperty -Path 'HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search' -name SearchboxTaskbarMode -Value 00 = hide completely (you can still  search just start typing when you open the start menu)
1 = show only icon
2 = show long search box

start menu app suggestions i hate those on my start menu so why not turn it off I mean i know what i like why bother me with other apps.
Code: [Select]
Set-ItemProperty -Path 'HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ContentDeliveryManager' -name SystemPaneSuggestionsEnabled -Value 00=no suggestion on apps
1=yes suggestion on apps
this one is how i disable Cortana with out removing the system app because if you remove the system app the task bar becomes unstable.
Code: [Select]
New-Item -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search'-Force | New-ItemProperty -Name AllowCortana -Value 0 -Force | Out-Null0= night night cortana
1=hello cortana
ever hate that lock screen on windows 10 that extra step of hitting the spacebar or click on the screen just to show your login screen??
Code: [Select]
New-Item -Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Personalization'-Force | New-ItemProperty -Name NoLockScreen -Value 1 -Force | Out-Null0=lockscreen
1=no lockscreen
Below is a gui powershell script I made enjoy!

Program & Site Requests / Possible Tech Toolbox Feature/Feature's
« on: January 07, 2016, 05:10:45 PM »
So I've been browsing your sister website I love that detect possible firewall program on this download link: it came in handy today when I was removing a picky Norton firewall.

Well another really awesome tool that I use to remove anti virus's that are uninstalled correctly is Eset's manual uninstall of antivirus. I've had customer's that have had multiple trial versions of antivirus's or antivirus's that were "patched" and this tool removed them like nothing in safe mode. even if the antivirus had a safe guard removal protection on them. what I'm curious about is if you can make a version of your own antivirus removal program like this one and possibly add it to the tech toolbox:

Actually there is more like instead of an actual antivirus removal how about an actual uninstaller.
Also a context menu handler. I hate icon's I love context menu... I got so many idea's snowballing in my head...

I was Browsing the internet looking for usb's and I found this Interesting program. It's in beta stages but it's called usb Raptor. you can set this up to remotely lock your computer within a network or via pulling out the usb drive. Here is a link from Majorgeeks and sourceforge.

I'm currently running this fine program it's awesome.  :artist:

Computer Help / Repairing broken apps in Windows 10 Bug.
« on: December 10, 2015, 06:22:56 PM »
EDIT: in windows 10 Version 10.0.10586.318 the Powershell command works!!! Finally Microsoft fixed it! So that means the next version of windows repair will have it back on  :cheesy:

Currently in Windows 10 (1511) 10.0.10586 Powershell is having issues with this command it is a bug that is affecting and deleting apps Shane already removed the command from running when it checks which version of windows you are running. This bug is only known to be on windows 10 with the newly released update.

Here is the command That is causing this issue please be weary when running this command I recommend not running this until there is a patch for it.
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml}
I'll be updating this when I know for sure Microsoft notices that there is a bug in the "Get-appXPackge" and patches Window's 10 so that this issue no longer exist's
here are the snapshot's of what it looks like.
(side note this command is a built in command to Windows)

So I've been working awhile and tested this on multiple machines I left instruction in the zip file any issues let me know. It will create a log file that will be stored in the same location as the batch file. The PowerShell scripts in this zip folder I did not create but the batch file i did. the reason why I created the batch file was so the average user can use this very powerful powershell script with little to no knowledge of powershell.

now after downloading the zip file right click and select unblock because windows is very picky about things coming from another computer.

Any questions or need help post on this thread ill help you out :D
Edit2: i've uploaded a new version  it lets you choose the update sections.
Edit: you can pick and choose which update's to install. and yes this should work for all windows version's
It will not display hidden update's so if you have certain updates hidden they will still be hidden.

« on: August 13, 2015, 08:08:39 PM »
So Shane is at it again with a major update this one involves the registry repair he has been up for 3-4 days now fine tuning and programming.

 If in 3.4.1 you noticed 3 reparse points and it won't fix it this is a bug and Shane has that fixed in his next Windows repair 3.4.2. you can go ahead and ignore those 3 keys. it should not effect your system it's just a bug.

Shane should be back soon he never forgets about us ;)
