I searched around and basically came up with zero references;

could use some help here...

what happened, the disk went Kaput, rebuilding the system from scratch OUCH!

with a clean install, I want to retrieve the old data on the old drive. however, while trying to kopy the info to the new partitions, it has flags and won't kopy till chkdisk completes. My intention, keep the old C and D drive handy on the new hard drive rather than a USB port... then just copy the old data files into the new drive... accordingly, a new install :(

TIA

752
Shane, there is another program called what changed, it might be a good idea to ask people to run that and upload the txt as a attachment too. I think that will conclude the issue. the program is free... similar to OTL

d. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode with Networking to start Windows into and press Enter.

try to run the below mentioned online scanners.

Run Online Microsoft Safety Scanner

http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Click above link, "Download" and Run.

Run TDSKiller to check if any infections affecting the installation.

a. Download the file TDSSKiller.exe from the following link and save it on the Desktop.

http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

b. Double click TDSSKiller.exe to scan the system.

c. Wait for the scan and disinfection process to complete.

d. Once the scan is completed infections will be listed, you will get an option to remove infections. I would request you to remove the infections and shutdown the computer and start again (do not restart the computer).

Another major URGENT Problem with Windows;

System Failure = Hard Drive Failure"

Trying to use Minitool or any drive copy with DIRTY FLAGS marked on the disks does not enable the drive to be copied.

lets assume, it's dirty, so what, we can copy and do chkdsk again on the new hard drive right? I need some help to resolve what this guys was reffering at this link posted in order to do just that. Remove the dirty flag to enable partition copying...

Need help with or program code examples to complete the task. actually, everyone does!

http://askubuntu.com/questions/112150/how-to-correctly-fix-a-dirty-ntfs-partition-without-using-chkdsk

754
well, we going to have to keep improving it...

did you grab that code I mentioned was the origianl problem, that will be useful, I saw several people ahd  that same problem...

I have an idea that will help to generate some revenues too... interested?

755
this one;

you better to archive it :)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997

For severe cases/method:

On another issue, I would like to express some concerns I have with people downloading all the reg fixers in one program using your program, you should isolate them as packages on a webpage and only have have people download them as they need that fix, it will also help to isolate the real problems. This is a more professional way... It will result in a lot less people complaining too, especially if they only needed that one issue but in turn look to blame the whole tweaking system...

I think, know, it is a good plan.... I will hang around a while and add some two cents from time to time.

756
Shane, what is the CACLS command to reset permissions on the C: to administrator to full

TIA

757
Shane, perhaps, it is better your program detect issues that will cause such issues...

For example, your program should clarify what will happen if;

your program should run this check before installing, then we can skip a lot of nonsense hackers!

This will also put us in the good graces of MSFT team... Important!

758
Please re-install the program :)

759
For the other issues; I have to ask, did you try re-install them yet?

You might like to try another program that kept me error free for a long time;

like any cleaner, open regedit first and export the whole registry to a USB or offline hard drive...

Then have a try at the Eusing Cleaner
eusing free registry cleaner,

This method should be applied before installing any program... :wink:

760
One reason, it checks your date....

I would, unistall it....

Then search google; how to remove "program name from my system" including all the registry keys

Clean Unistall, then maybe try to re-install it again... but I wouldn't re-install it myself

Just how I would do it :)

761
yes, but it is also a global issue, MSFT already produced a fix overnight, you should grab that update!!!

762
Step 1: Disable Windows Defender:

a. Click on Start and Click on Run.

b. You will see the Run window.

c. Type Services.msc in the run window and hit enter or click ok.

d. Find and double click on the service named "Windows Defender". Alternatively right click on "Windows Defender" and select "Properties" on right click menu.

f. Close services.msc window.

Step 2:

Give full permissions to Microsoft Security Essentials folder and start the Microsoft Malware Protection Driver.

Open a Command Prompt.

To do this, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

a. Please type the following command in the command prompt window and press Enter after each command.

Cd\

Cacls "c:\program files\microsoft security essentials" /t /g administrators:f

Press "Y" to execute the above command.

Net stop msmpsvc

Net stop mpfilter

Net start mpfilter

Net start msmpsvc

Restart the computer and update MSE then check the status of Real Time Protection.

Step 3: Start Microsoft Security Essentials service and its dependencies required

a. Click Start and click on Run.
b. Type the following text in Run window and click ok:
Services.msc
c. You will get Services window.
d. Please check the below list of services which are set to "Started" and "Automatic".

Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Cryptographic service
Microsoft Antimalware
Windows Installer
Windows updates

e. If the above services are not set to "Started" and "Automatic", please right click on that particular service and select "properties".
f. On properties window, please change the Start-up type to Automatic and use the Stop button to stop the service. Followed by "Start" button to start service

g. Click OK.
h. Close the Services window
i. Please restart the computer and check if the issue re-occurs.

If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next steps.

Step 4: Remove Virus infection from your computer

 TDSSKiller to scan system for Root Kit viruses:

a) Download the file TDSSKiller.exe from the following link and save it on the Desktop:

http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe

b) Double click TDSSKiller.exe and click on Start Scan to scan the system.

c) Once the scan completes, please restart the system and check with the issue.

Step 5: Manually install the virus and spyware definition updates

step one; check with the manufacturer wesbsite to see if there is a bios or any driver updates

step two; check your services, auto plug and play,

I would start with step one;

Hi, sorry for troubling you with this problem. No issues. The d drive works smoothly and every folder is having its correct attributes. while messing around fixing cd dvd problem, Fix it portable has somehow crept in to d drive. The view at Disk management is default local disk D. In safety mode also the view is default D Drive. But in explorer only this problem. C also has some strange icon, other than usual Local Disk C. How to correct it

*******************************************************************
I'm curious, what effect does this POSE with the registry finding installed programs?
*******************************************************************

765
My Windows repair tool should fix those :wink:

Shane

Hi, getting back to our other issues :)

I did run some of the programs, however, still some severe issues.

We need rebuild the WMI. can you help with that :)
Event viewer will not load

Security Essentials still has some issues loading again.
re-stalling MSE is a big headache...
running the msiexec /regserver command to see if that solves it before try to re-stall

766
Need some ideas here;

1. Event.msc will not open

For the record: MSFT, why add it if it dont work?

 1) Used msconfig to switch to safe mode boot
 2) Booted to safe mode
 3) ran cmd.exe as an administrator
 4) typed "cd C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI"
 5) typed "rename RtBackup RtBackup2"
 6) Used msconfig to switch to normal boot mode
 7) Reboot and found event viewer working

I find this not useful as it says; {access is denied}

trying;

KB Article Number(s): 972999

Location: (http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows%20Vista/sp3/Fix282407/6000/free/386394_intl_i386_zip.exe)

It works; let the system reboot;;;;;;; OKKKK!

====================================
2. Vista Will not install any updates or programs

Trying these methods now;

update regsitry fix:

> Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
>
> [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Group Policy
> Objects\LocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\WindowsUpdate\DisableWindowsUpd

>
> [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]
> "NoWindowsUpdate"=dword:00000000

Then try;

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997

For severe cases/method:

need to edit the registry:

Open Registry Editor:
GO to HKLM/Components

Export the Component to the desktop;
then delete any values except

PublisherPolicyChangeTime
StoreArchitecture
StoreFormatVerion

767
Need some ideas here;

1. Event.msc will not open from a CLEAN INSTALL

2. Vista Will not install any updates or programs

768
Shane:

here is the registry code that was corrupt to begin with: Your Welcome. use it wisely!!!!!!!

I did the steps; LUCKY ME

Now, I found my system will not boot, not even in SAfE Mode;

If I install Tweaking on another desktop, can I remove my hard drive that will not boot and use tweaking to restore boot drive?

Please provide detailed info; it is urgent matter!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mission fianlly accomplished !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are some small things, but using All in one can be easily remedied now!
We can review all the steps I took, create a rescue disk, or better yet, an online remote resue service!
No, that was not my intentions, I had sever nuclear holocast boot startup!

Slowly, we will fix

URGENT MATTER.

thanks in advance

Special thanks to Shane and ,e,ners who contributed to help me solve this issue!

Well, we copied all those files, no luck

yes, I did the MBRFIX already, ran the /enum to check the entries. correctly.

Need copy the rest of the new install to the old windows folder, see whats really up then

Question; which folders holds the system operating system folders?

Shane, what your next plan here?

Hi, Rick, If it is a registry problem, All in one tool by Shane would have fixed it. Have you tried mbr fix. You have reported that mbrfix not available. Please it is available when you log in thro the installation cd. The method is
 Have the installation cd, and when prompt from cd comes enter to boot installation cd, and then when windows show start windows screen, select R for repairing and then enter 1 and password to go to c:\windows. Type FIXMBR to fix the unwanted entries other than the windows default mbr entries. Select yes if a warning message comes and then exit. Your problem would be getting solved. This even though seemed confusing will reset the mbr. Because the software downloaded might have included some entries to the mbr, making it vulnerabe for improper behaviour.

J, Shane said his program does not run in a stand-alone or boot up, his tool can not run from a boot-CD... it can only work within a windows system already running. “A Fault that should be fixed”

Currently, I have enabled the new drive; used minitool too copy; the old C: and D: to the new drive.

I re-installed Windows on a new drive to be sure system will even work, updated it back to VistaSP2;
Now “X Coping” in Overwrite mode the following directories back to the new hard drive;

Will try let startup-repair recover the BCD in startup repair mode; otherwise will copy the BCD from the new install drive to the new hard drive "hopefully, the BCD here will at least boot up"

\Drivers
\Inf
\System
\System32
\Winsxs "we should consider to point the operating system to one (winsxs folder), it will save 10G's"

“Note that we should rename the pending-file in the WINSXS folder”

“X copy” Users last or next try, "depends on whether we get a boot or not after the above"

Anything folders I missed?

One issue; we need a program that will run in standalone mode to open the registry. Then we can merge an old registry into the stand alone mode and restart from their should work ok... "I did not find one to do that"

I did not use this method; but it would have helped!

Hi, Try this link and see the video solution. It is simple
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6D-M9Uc1AA
If the above does not work, then try what I did. Boot off your Windows install disc, go to repair, & get to the command prompt. navigate to C:\windows\system32 and then rename utilman.exe to utilman.old

After that, rename cmd.exe to utilman.exe

Now, boot into Windows, and at your Black screen with the cursor now use the Key Combo [Windows Key] + and instead of bringing up the Accessibility Options, you'll get your command prompt. I hope this helps
Another try at MBR fix
To fix your mbr, boot from your windows 7 dvd, choose your language, time and keyboard input.
Click "repair computer"
Choose "command prompt"
Type: "bootsect /nt60 ALL" (without quotes )

Reboot

Edit: hit "del" to enter your bios to set your dvd as primary boot

jraju

I find this method to be ineffective in my case. still a black screen with a mouse, "not blinking"

this after we just bought a new hard drive and did a minitool copy to the new drive.. so yes, it's definetly the registry problem...

I find this method to be ineffective in my case. still a black screen with a mouse, "not blinking"

yes, I applied it to both drives c:\ d:\ and tried reboot in both

C:\ just endless reboot loop now

Next course of action, xcopy the system folder from the new install

I also tried SFC again; it will not work too;

action taken;

Partially confirmed. Running SFC /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=[C]:\ /OFFWINDIR=[C]:\WINDOWS combined with removing/renaming [C]:\WINDOWS\WINSXS\PENDING.XML is the solution to getting SFC to run properly.

*Note that you must remove/rename the windows\winsxs\pending.xml from the hard-drive you are attempting to repair, not the virtual drive X: that the Repair Process tends to run off of*

SFC WOULD STILL NOT RUN; any ideas?

Hi, here what microsoft expert say  about Black screen of death.
"Black screen issues are extremely tough to repair and any fix is usually on a hit or miss basis.
That there is no information on a black screen like there is on a blue screen just adds to the
difficulty. Often using a restore point nor startup repair will have any effect. You can try a
google to see suggested repairs some of which have worked however these cover a wide
field of efforts." So only i suggested reinstall. The fixes for this runs to pages and so many tools that one will take atleast 3 days to complete the exercise.

Not sure if I already asked or not:

lets say, I do re-install, new hard drive.
how can I migrate my programs from my old hard drive using it on the USB port as a hard drive?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Rick,  Have you got the installation cd.. Then mbr fix at the command prompt bootsect /nt60ALL will certainly help you. This is the solution, i came across surfing the net.
yeah, I have it, but that command is not available

for reference; this install disk I am running to reboot to repair is a replacement vista home edition with SP1

I ran the surface scan project, it found bad sectors, so I went to buy a new HD... will minitool copy the drive to the new hard drive.. continue withg repairs from their...

I noticed, if I try the re-install feature, it is a grayed out option, anyway too change that? what if I copy the disk to a hard drive and re-install from their? could I edit that command t obe able to re-install... this would be helpful in my case...
