Computer Help / ****PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING****
« on: October 24, 2013, 07:37:06 PM »
When posting please make sure to post what version of Windows you are on and any other info that might help me understand the problem, screen shots are always welcome as they let me see the error or problem instead of trying to explain it :-)

I normally try to reply to every post within the first 24 hours, but I also run a computer repair business and sometimes I get slammed with work, so I am sorry if I don't reply as fast as I normally like, but I will reply! :artist:

I do try to take the weekends off to spend with my wife and kids, so keep that in mind, but on weekends where I am not busy with the family I will reply to posts otherwise you can normally count on a reply from me come Monday morning.

And last but not least, never be afraid of asking me a question. My goal is to teach and to help, and you wont learn if you don't ask. Also for my fellow techs out there you are always welcome to post, ask questions, answer them, I enjoy talking with my fellow tech. I have built both my sites and all my programs by word of mouth, so if you like my work and I am able to help you all I ask in return is to help spread the word

8024402c means it had trouble talking to the windows update servers. And I have always found it to be DNS related.

My fix is to have the system use the google dns servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

This bug is on my own ISP. When I used their DNS every single machine in my house and office would fail with this error. As soon as I changed dns servers they all worked. I tried to let my ISP know but they just ignored me lol

To make changing your DNS servers easier I made a program that will do it for you :-)

So try the dns trick and see how it does

Creating add-ons for the advanced system tweaker is simple. I have made a video explaining how to create add-ons.

Help File

And more importantly, if you have any trouble creating an add-on and need help, just ask.

(As always, if you need the advanced system tweaker program you can grab it here http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/advanced_system_tweaker.html)

This new add-on pack will be updated with more add-ons as per user request that I receive.

Currently in this pack as of 01-30-2012

Menu Hover Time
Menu Show Delay
No Low Disk Space Checks

Simply extract the zip file into the add-ons folder of the program.

Want more added to this pack? Then give me some ideas and make requests and I will get them added. :-)

Add-ons for Advanced System Tweaker / [Add-on] Defrag Then Shutdown v1.0.0
« on: December 28, 2011, 11:03:22 PM »
(As always, if you need the advanced system tweaker program you can grab it here http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/advanced_system_tweaker.html)

This add-on is one I use here at home.

Before heading off to bed I run the defrag then shutdown tweak.

This does just what it says. Defrags your drive then shuts down your system :-)

Just extract the zip file and move the add-ons folder from the zip file to the program directory.

Add-ons for Advanced System Tweaker / Submitting Your Custom Add-ons
« on: December 28, 2011, 10:49:12 PM »
If you have written a custom add-on simply create a new topic and attach your new add-on.

Make sure to include instructions for users on any special things they need to install the add-on.

For the time being I have added a like button for each new topic. This will be until I can get a better rating system installed.

Add-ons that have a high popularity will be added to the tweaking.com main site. :-D

If you need any information on creating add-ons check here
http://www.tweaking.com/articles/pages/tweaking_com_advanced_system_tweaker_online_help,1.html

If you have any requests for new keywords or features to be added to the program to help with your add-on simply post a new thread and let me know.

I will be taking requests for the program very seriously as it only helps make the program better

Add-ons for Advanced System Tweaker / Requesting New Add-ons
« on: December 28, 2011, 10:44:17 PM »
If you are looking for an add-on to do a certain task but are unable to make the add-on your self you can post a request in this forum.

Start the new topic with [Request] in the subject and simply post what it is you are looking for.

Myself or other authors will see about getting the new add-on created.

I want the program to have a very large list of add-ons for people to choose from.

So I will be taking requests very seriously.

Add-ons for Advanced System Tweaker / How To Install Add-ons
« on: December 28, 2011, 10:41:22 PM »
Installing add-ons in the advanced system tweaker is very easy and straight forward.

In the program directory is an add-ons folder. The program loads all add-ons in this folder and by the folder tree they are under.

Example: the file tree under the add-ons folder "\Tweaks\Services\Remote Registry.tweak" will show up in the program like:

Tweaks
---Services
------Remote Registry

By doing this allows users to freely change the order and location of the add-ons (.tweak files).

Removing a add-on is as simple as deleting the .tweak file you want to remove.

For custom add-ons check for the authors instructions if they have any.

If you have any trouble simple post in the forum for help.

Windows Repair does a good job on a lot of systems.

But on some systems there might be something that is out of whack that can make things worse.

Always make sure to do a system restore backup before using the program.

If you need help after using the repair tool just ask me and I will be more than happy to help. The more people I help the better I can make the repair program.

As of v1.3.0 I was able to not only fix all the problems the old versions caused for people but I also made sure it wouldn't happen again.
The problem was with the reg & file permissions and the trusted installer messing things up. I had the users who had problems from my old version run this new version and it fixed everything right up  :cheesy:

Again if you have trouble just let me know! It is the only way I can make the program better & safer
