Ok - checkdisk cant advise you to uninstall anything - so that must be something else?

Also, the tray icon cannot load if the program is uninstalled - so I suspect something else again.

To unload the tray icon click settings then uncheck the launch tray icon at program startup.

Then I would highly suggest doing some decent viral scans.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: windows don't start up
« on: December 29, 2017, 07:36:17 am »
The startup repair is actually a windows issue - not the Tweaking Repair program.  Did you run this in safe mode for our repairs? Becuase I suspect there was another underlying issue.

Either way this "should" get you back

I've seen that happen before with driver issues and once with a boot sector virus - I'll assume it isn't that.

I found a really good article here that can help.

I appreciate the panic - I've been there myself.

The MD5 Hash is a type of check to verify the integrity of our files.  If, when starting the program, the MD5 fails - then the copy you have is no good for some reason. It could be a hacked copy or a corrupt copy but either way, it should not be used.

To fix that you just needed to redownload the program and reinstall.

Given the description, I'd wager you have a rather serious hardware issue - probably your drive.  If while running the program it locked up, crashed and I am assuming corrupted one f our files - bad hard drive makes sense.  It also makes a little sense if the Acronis then had issues. However, even if Acronis formats the drive you should still be able to lad the backup image on the machine. So that may be unrelated. I'd need to know more.

But I would check the drive for sure.

Registry bloat used to be a big issue but it's not as important as it used to be.

Basically, the registry is loaded into RAM on boot. The smaller the faster it loads.  I just looked mine add up to like 200+ MB.

If I were to clean and compress I suspect it would drop the size in half.  hence loading and looking things up would be faster.

Given that I have a lot of ram on this machine and it is fairly fast - the 100 MB savings would be a negligible difference -  But it would be a difference.

But I suppose the registry is like anything else - you should periodically clean it up. That said, if you simply run a cleaner the keys become "null" or zeros so typically if you look at a cleaned registry and compare it to the old one. They would be of similar size. Compressing the registry just rid of the nullness. (I made that word up :) )

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: Envelope Printer Not Aligning Properly
« on: November 05, 2017, 12:48:23 pm »
per ashkinos:

PROBLEM: Addresses were printing way off target.

SOLUTION:
PostScript functionality is not included in my default (Brother) printer driver.
I had to go to the support page for my printer and install a second (PS emulator) driver to use when printing envelopes.

Thank you SO much for your help.
This software will help me for the rest of my life...so...yeah.
THANKS!

You compress the registry to reduce the size and hence system resources needed to use it.  Frankly, there is no point to "cleaning" the registry without compressing it.

It sounds like something stopped the compressor. The .new file is the compressed version.  It may not be complete -so don't use it. However if you rename that and re-run will it work?

from a command prompt?

You could do something like "dir *kl_76-KLK7L.jpg /s"   if I understand the issue.  The "*" is wildcard so that says, give me a list of all the files that start with anything and end with kl_76-KLK7L.jpg .. The /s searched all the subdirectories from where you are at.

or if you just wanted files with KL7L in it that ended with anything extensions

dir *KL7L*.* /s

But I would just use a program.  ;)

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: Problem Registering Portable Version
« on: September 21, 2017, 01:49:43 pm »
As we have said - and always said. We sell the product per version.  From version 3 to version 4 was about 3 years. So it's not like we are churning it out versions everyday.  With our new interface if you have purchased version 3 100% of version free features will work. We simply wrapped 3 and 4 into the same interface to maintain one code base.  If you do not need the v4 features you have a choice to simply stay with what you are doing for no cost.  If you upgrade to or purchas version 4 - when version 5 comes out you can expect the same thing.  This is nothing new in the shareware world. It's pretty much been like that since the dawn of shareware to some extent.

We had no choice but to change the licensing agreements because large companies are literally ripping us off including the one that wrote the operating system that you are using.

The tech license is there to try and stay true to our concept - The repairs are free for those who need them. However, if you are using our product as billable hours, as gsfriend is,  then you should be charged a fair rate. $65 per tech seems more than reasonable, so we can keep maintaining and updating the product. Try and find a tech that will work for 65 per year. ;)

I do appreciate that some do not agree with this licensing decision but like I said we had little choice.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: Adding scripts to tweeks
« on: August 30, 2017, 08:09:20 pm »
You type the scripts you want in the window - then save as the current script.

After the repairs run the scripts run.

YOu can save different scripts, but the "current" is the one that runs.

Hope that helps.

Please write me at support @ tweaking .com

I'll need either the email or key code to look into it.

Thanks!

There is nothing at all in the repair program that can change drive lettering.

The only way to do what you described is with drive formatting. The repair program has no ability to handle drive formatting.

It is possible your computer shipped with a partition of 512MB that has the original install or recovery files - typically those do not have a driver letter assigned or it is something funky like f: or Z: . They are also sometimes hidden partitions.   But I am curious as to what is on the 512 partition.

So - i supsect you either have partitioning software on your machine or at some time tried to use partitioning software, and now the wrong partition is active as c: drive. I suspect perhaps someone was playing with Seagate's disk wizard and it's created some weirdness. Heck - perhaps it was installed wrong, to begin with.  I can't be sure.

The other thing that is possible is something is wrong with your disk management

In the Search box, type diskmgmt.msc and then click the diskmgmt.msc

I would like to see a screen shot of what it says.

It should look like this.

I apologize, but you are misunderstanding the license. We have never sold a lifetime license.

We clearly state that the payment is per major revisions. 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, etc.

With 3.x you have a lic to 3.x features for as long as we make them.

With the new 2018 interface, 100% of all 3.x features work for you and will 100% always work for you.  The only change is the interface that has 4.x features in it.

Both 3x and 4.x are in the same interface so we can actually manage it -- BUT there is zero requirement at all on your part to purchase any of the 4.0 features and you will always have the 3.0 features.

This is not an unusual way to go about things, but I do apologize for the confusion.

Jim

.net is a common thread. But, I'm thinking maybe the User Account Control.

If you right click on easy BCD and choose run as administrator..does it work?

96
I have a couple of other guesses - none that make sense totally to me.

The repair program itself wouldn't touch the easy BCD program. So it must be something else. Perhaps it is a user account problems - or perhaps a VB issue (as both apps are VB).

I'm assuming easybcd doesn't work in safe mode either, yes?

97
I was stumped here for a bit but researching the error code I'm 99% sure that windows firewall is blocking the programs you have listed.

If you go to start -> control panel -> security -> windows firewall you should be able to added exceptions for them there.

Tweaking.com Support & Help / Re: Loading Variables Get Stuck @76%
« on: May 27, 2017, 10:07:01 am »
It sounds pretty clear that something you are running is blocking the software. 99 times out of 100 its an antivirus product. You could try to disable it or whitelist us - depending on the product.

However, if you run msconfig. Click the boot tab and click the safe boot box with the networking option and that will reboot you into safemode without the use of the keyboard.

99
I'm trying to duplicate it and I can't.

The program is 100% reliant on the print drivers. Look though your print setting and make sure there isn;t something goofy selected - like scaling or "fit to print"/

Another thought is that your printer is  to drop down on the envelopes that you are using and instead of say Printer Supported #10 use Custom #10. See if that works.
