General Computer Support / Screen Sleep
« on: January 10, 2013, 02:37:35 am »
Shane

Hey bud. I need some help. My screen is set to sleep after 45 minutes. However, it will not wake from moving the mouse. This is what happens. I shake the mouse to wake screen. The screen changes from black ( asleep ) to gray. I can wake by pressing control alt delete then hit cancel. What gives. This is the new rig I built. I am using a xfx radeon r7770.

Shane,

I have the registry back up program scheduled to run hidden. Last night I noticed it was running and you could see it on the desk top. It's running under current user account (The administrator account). Do I need to set it to run under system account?

Everything Else / cpu build questions
« on: December 18, 2012, 10:25:18 am »
Shane

I have a thermaltake smart 850w (80 plus ceritfied) modular power supply. It comes with enough connections for 9 sata and 6 or 8 molex connections. I will be running 6 120mm fans. Can I daisy chain the fans, say two per connection or should I give them their own moles connection?

Everything Else / windows 7 license
« on: December 15, 2012, 02:09:09 pm »
Shane,

I currently have windows 7 64 bit on this computer. It originally had vista 32 bit. I am building my own rig in about a week once everything comes in. I want to put vista back on this machine. Can I put my windows 7 on the new machine? I'm not sure if it would register since it was first put on this one.

Everything Else / case
« on: December 09, 2012, 04:52:25 pm »
Shane

I just bought a new case to support cooling of all my hard drives. It has two spots up top for 120mm fans (I'v also got 120's in front on the back and side). Should I set them up for exhaust or intake?

I'm thinking about adding two new internal hardrives (3 in total). I want to put os on a new hard drive and use the old hard drive for storage. What is the best way to format old hard drive to wipe it clean of os so there are no conflicts?

Shane

Do you use aero in windows 7 64 bit? If not how do you get rid of the the ugly light blue task bar? I have 8gigs of ram. Not that my system is slow, I'm just looking for that extra bit of response.

Everything Else / Defragment
« on: October 29, 2012, 12:56:12 pm »
Hey Guys

Looking for a way to completely defrag my drives without using third party defragmenters. I read somewhere that -w switch is not supported in windows 7. Is this true? Normally I use "defrag c: -v -w".

Shane

I'm setting my system to shut down if cores reach certain temps. I have Amd Athlon 64 x2 5600 dual cores. Do you have any idea what the max temps it can handle and where should I set my system to shut down?

Everything Else / Remote log in
« on: October 25, 2012, 11:33:02 am »
Hey Shane

I would like to be able to log into my desktop from my laptop while away on business. What is the best software for this? Also I have remote assistance unchecked in system properties and have disable the remote services. Do these need to be enabled to log in and would I have to set up my router to allow me to log in from a hotel connection?

Everything Else / pagefile
« on: August 25, 2012, 05:53:56 am »
Hey Shane

Have you ever had any trouble running windows 7 64 bit without a pagefile? I have 8gb of ram and thinking about disabling the pagefile. Are there any significant speed changes? I read somewhere that some software require a pagefile to run correctly. Is this true? Trying to tweak my machine for the best stable speed possible.

Hey Shane
I recently installed windows 7 64 bit. In Advanced System Tweaker the registry defrag doesn't work right ( I'm guessing your still using erunt for this). I't quickly opens the command window then nothing happens. How do I make this work in 64 bit?

Everything Else / windows time service
« on: July 23, 2012, 08:04:59 pm »
Hey Shane

I notice every now and again in event viewer I get a warning stating the the windows time service hasn't re synced in( I think it said 84000 seconds, somewhere in that neighborhood). Does a stand alone system need this to be running? Does it actually sync time for a stand alone system?
