Everything Else / Firefox
« on: January 13, 2012, 05:43:19 pm »
Hey guys

Does anybody know to speed up the initial start up of fire fox after a fresh boot (it takes about 4 sec's to start)to make like ie. I have 6 add-ons and 8 extensions (java, adobe, shock-wave, silver-light etc).
Other than that it is smoking fast.

Everything Else / FireFox
« on: January 08, 2012, 08:07:01 am »
Hi Shane,

I understand that you like using Firefox? I've tried recently Google chrome and honestly it is slower than ie9, at least it is on my machine. IE9 loads pages very quick for me (blink of an eye really), as far as downloads are concerned I use a paid program called internet download manger (which takes over all downloads for web browsers). With this I can download a 300meg file in 20-30 seconds. Is Firefox honestly significantly faster? I want to try it but I also hate installing software only to uninstall because I don't use it (I don't have anything installed that I don't use). I'm looking for insight here especially for hardware acceleration.

Hi Shane

I know this is kind of trivial but. Do you use any programs to keep your drivers up to date?

Everything Else / Crash Dump
« on: January 03, 2012, 05:14:34 pm »
Hi Shane,

I'v been fiddling with my pagefile set up on vista 32 bit 3 gig of ram for some time now. I'v recently read Mr. Russinovich (He is with Microsoft)take on how to properly configure your pagefile. He was saying open all the applications you use at a time and then check your peak commit charge then set the minimum pagefile to be that minus what how much ram you have. If you need breathing room set the maximum to be double that, If the value is negative pick a minimum size to permit the kind of crash dump the system is configured for. My question is this. What size should my pagefile be to permit a crash dump? I leave my computer on all the time with lots of programs running. Over a day or two my commit peak charge is almost 3 gig.

Everything Else / System Cleaners
« on: December 29, 2011, 11:19:24 am »
Hi Shane,

Hope you had a Merry Christmas. Do you recommend any system cleaners at all i.e. Ccleaner, Advamced System Care, and registry cleaners, or do you just stay away from this stuff. I trust your opinion, thats why I'm asking.

Everything Else / Boottrace
« on: December 22, 2011, 01:27:41 pm »
Told you I'd break something else. I changed my prefetch and superfetch setting in the reg to 2 instead of 3. Tired of my hard drive thrashing all the time to preload memory that didn't always load what I always use. I cleaned out my prefetch folder except for the layout file to make it fresh with new settings. Problem is I accidentally deleted the readyboot folder as well for the boot traces. How do I fix this? I have my system set up to make an image every night. I could go back and restore it, but I would like to know how to do it myself. Do I just make a new folder and call it ReadyBoot like it was in the prefetch folder?

Hi Shane

A while back I used your program with reset registry, file permissions and register system files checked. Everything is fine but now all of my user specific folders in explorer have a little icon over the bottom left corner of them. How do I get explorer to show just the folder with out icon (the icon is a picture of two people, head with shoulders)?

Hi Shane

What exactly did you change in the updated version of Simple Performance Boost. I want to know if I should update my old version and then run the new one for any new tweaks.
