Windows 7 laptop only starts in Safe Mode (Solved)
« on: November 28, 2015, 08:48:05 am »
I ran the Windows Repair Tool on a laptop with Windows 7. The machine took over a day to run the repair tool. Now it only will start in safe Mode. Is there any way to make it start the normal way, not in safe mode?

There are a couple of ways -

Go Start - type msconfig and press enter then under the Boot tab uncheck the box for Safe Mode - Apply - OK

If that doesn't do it then boot up into the Advanced Boot options by tapping F8 (usually) as you switch on.

Select Repair your Computer - change or confirm they keyboard using the dropdown and navigate to the Recovery Environment.

Select Command Prompt and enter bcdedit /deletevaluue {current} safeboot

Note the space before the forward slash.

Enter exit to close the cmd window then click on Restart.

That was quick. Thanks to you Boggin, again. Your first suggestion worked.

Now I just have to speed up the boot process. I will search for this on it's own.

Have a look under the Startup tab in msconfig.

I only have one program enabled in there.

Under the Services tab, check the box to Hide all MS Services and then you can vet what is in there but the free StartUpLite may help you with what you can disable.

Just to add to that - if you disable any programs under the Startup tab that you later decide to uninstall, first re-enable them in msconfig as you will end up with orphaned files and the entry will remain in msconfig.

What repair took so long? Can you post the log from the repair, the main log, it shows the start and finish time of each repair.
