WR Tray Icon suggestion
« on: January 10, 2016, 04:13:30 PM »
Suggestion:

Add programcode that makes the WR tray icon refresh itself every say 30 or say 60 seconds. Recently I had a number of crashes (in total about say 20 instances) of "Explorer.exe". I never found out why it crashed. some sort of weird combination of registry settings (??) or programs (??) But when I re-started "Explorer.exe" the WR tray icon was gone.

E.g. the Cleanmem icon that shows the % of used memory get refreshed when needed and when that's happening then that icon shows up in the system tray again.

Of course, "Explorer.exe" also is restarted when one uses the WR repair "Repair Icons". Then the WR tray icon also doesn't re-appear.

I don't have my WR icon displaying all of the time and access it by clicking on the arrow, but you can customize it to Show icon and notifications.

It did disappear once for me but firing up WR without running it restored it.

When explorer.exe is restarted the taskbar created event is sent out, and it is up to any program to watch for it and if it sees it, it is suppose to send the tray icon create request to explorer again.

I am pretty sure I have that in there and it should be watching for it, same as I did for the tray icons for cleanmem and such. I will need to test. The new codejock controls I have now do have a nice tray icon control with it, I may be switching to that :-)

- Yes, I know. Everytime I install a new version of WR (ALWAYS in a new folder) then I have to tell Windows that it should display the new WR tray icon all the time.
- Well, it seems WR doesn't "reply" to that "event" being sent out. Perhaps that event doesn't "reach" WR.
- Cleanmem isn't a good comparison because the system tray icon needs to refreshed every time the % of used memory changes. And that happens A LOT.

Yes, the WR program code needs to tested and if/when needed improved.

- Perhaps adding an extra time delay somewhere in the program code of WR and/or to the repair called "Repair Icons" would do the trick.

Did "Tweaking.com" look into this matter ? Whether or not WR responds to such an "Event" ?
