Open the program then use Option 5 to restore the registry.

If the dropdown is blank then use the dropdown arrow to expand.

I'll pass this onto Shane.

What is the reason you ran the WR program ?

I also have problems on one of my Win 7 laptops where after running WR, everything is frozen after the reboot and subsequent reboots which I've never found the reason why.

Were these bugs always there or gradually developed ?

It's quite possible that Windows Media Player could have become corrupt.

Download VLC and make that the default program after you have restored the registry.

Do you have the most up to date versions of those ?

I've found that when a program becomes buggy, a reinstall normally resolves, unless there's a conflict with something else on your machine.

This can be determined to see if the problem persists in Safe Mode or in a clean boot.

To perform a clean boot in Win 7, go Start - type msconfig and press enter.

Under the Startup tab, click on Disable all - Apply - OK and then restart when prompted.

If your antivirus program is listed among those, then leave that box checked.

If there's still no improvement then under the Services tab, check the box to Hide all Microsoft Services (and this is a must) then hit Disable all - Apply - OK and restart.

That will just disable the non-MS services.

If there's any improvement after either step then go to the relevant tab and just re-check the box for one item - Apply - OK and restart, repeating those steps until the problem returns and then leave that one unchecked.

To return to a normal boot, on the first msconfig page, check the Normal start button and then go back to uncheck the offending item - Apply - OK and restart.

Can you boot up into the advanced boot options - usually by tapping F8 as you switch on, although this key can vary depending upon the make of computer and select Repair your Computer.

Change or confirm the keyboard/currency using the dropdown and make a note of where it locates the OS to repair.

Select Command prompt when you get to the Recovery Environment and enter these commands -

bcdedit |find "osdevice"

That is a Pipe symbol before find and is the uppercase of \

This will confirm the partition letter.

At the next prompt enter chkdsk x: /f where x is the partition letter.

Let us know what that reports regarding repairs and if any KBs in bad sectors.

Disregard - I think it is error 50 at the end, because it can't write its report to Event Viewer.

- Perhaps your HD is (in the 1st stages of) failing. run GSmartControl and tell us how many pink/red lines show up in the "Attributes" tab.
