Internal Camera & Microphone
« on: July 19, 2018, 07:44:50 pm »
I have a Toshiba laptop S55-A5275 and the internal camera & Microphone do not work. My OS
is Windows 10 version 1803. Tried to call my brother the other day via Skype but he could not
hear me. The last time I talk to him via Skype was in Jan 2018 and at that time it was working.
I need some help to correct or fix this problem. Thank you

It may have been because of the April update.

See if this article can help - https://windowsreport.com/camera-mic-access-issues-windows-10-april-update/

This did not help. If anyone has a solution to fox this problem please advise. If it is a
Microsoft update problem the only thing I can do is to wait until the fix it if they ever
do. Thanks

It's most probably because of April's update given the time frame when you last used it.

All I can suggest is to contact MS - help with update problems are free.

Let us know how you get on.

I think using the Live chat will get you better help than phoning them.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/contactus/

Click on Contact support in the browser instead and type your problem in the box.

This is for the UK but you should get something similar for Japan.

Did an on line chat with a level 1 and a level 2 MS Tech. I gave them control of my Laptop and they
did more than 3 hours of troubleshooting but could not find nor fix the problem. They advise me that
it was probably a Toshiba drive problem with an outdated driver and to contact them for an updated
driver to fix this. I don't think it's a Toshiba drive problem. I have installed some Toshiba drivers but
with no help to correct the problem.  What good is SKYPE if I can not use it?

Sometimes it can be drivers that are no longer compatible with the latest Win 10 update and the vendors have to catch up.

Can you or have you tried with an external mike ?

To see if the update was responsible, you could perform a repair install and opt for not installing the updates during the procedure and while it won't be long before the updates start downloading, try out Skype then.

A repair install doesn't affect personal stuff or installed programs.

If you don't have Win 10 install media, you can create either a DVD or USB after reading the instructions at https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

When you've done that and with the install media inserted, open Windows Explorer - This PC and double click on the drive.

This will start the process when using a DVD but will open to the files if using an USB, where you would then double click on setup Application.

This takes about 3½hrs on my Toshibas.

Got an external microphone and it works just fine with Skype. Will use it until MS fixes
the problem they created. Thanls to all.

Did you try the repair install as I've suggested to see if it is because of the April update ?

No I did not try the repair install because I do not use Skype that much. Living in Okinawa Japan
I try to call my brother in the U.S. about every 6 months just to make sure everything is ok.

I was just wondering if it could be something wrong with the computer and eliminating the update could point to that, but it is a known problem caused by the update.

I called my brother yesterday via Skype and used my external mike. He told me that he could hear me just
great. Therefore, I will continue to use the external mike until MS gets off their dead butts and fixes the
problem they caused. Have a great one.
