This operation requires an interactive window station

<< < (3/4) > >>

Michael Cervantes:
Ricks my sound card is integrated in the motherboard, and it has been working without problem since a build this machine. Under the possibility that the sound were broke, I bought a new sound card and the system don't let me install the new sound card drivers same problem with two different sound cards. There is a many people in internet posting same problem with different devices, the comun denominator is the message about the interactive window station that the operation requires. The users that has solve the problem are those that reinstalled Windows, but I don't want to do that, because if the same problem show ups I will be to be installing on and on, my system have many big applications, I am a graphic designer, and it will take me a lot of time to install, run updates, etc.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Rick:
I remember some issues;

One Try install the latest realtek soundrivers, please google it ok. little busy to search the website now.
they usually solved the problems their

I still can see that it can only be a registry key that is giving you the real trouble in this case.
services.msc  stop and start the service check that all audio are started, some systems have HD seperaterly listed
start that too

Unfortunately, I never researched the audio registry keys; I always used realtek drivers...
I agree, lets not re-install Windows, lets just find what registry key is disabled, have you had a search here?

search google; how to disable my sound device, look for websites that refer to the registry "use the term "disable", that is your problem now, if you say "fix", nothing will happen!

maybe download this program, see if it is useful tool.

Another website suggests too;
Goto
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\
right click on "MMDevices" select permissions, click add then click advance and then click on "Find Now" then you'll have the list select "Everyone" click OK twice and select Everyone at Groups or usernames box and be sure to select Full Control and Read means both are ticked...

then do this again for this HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MMDevices\Audio\Render

Has your registry key been deleted?

Does your sound device show up?

Hope you get this; I will test it later myself

Shane:
There is one way to make sure it isnt a hardware problem.

Download the Ubuntu live cd
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

This will let you boot Ubunut linux right off the CD without installing anything. It should auto install the drivers it needs for your sound.

See if your sound works there. If it does then we know for sure it isnt a hardware problem :-)

Shane

Michael Cervantes:
Shane I know that the hardware is not the problem because I installed a new sound card and Windows didn't installed its drivers also.

I did download ubuntu, and it installed sound drivers without problem, so hardware is fine, the problem is in Windows.

Thanks a lot for your time and attention.

Shane:
OK good then we can check that off the list. I like to cover all bases :-)

Ok lets check a few other things out. You will have have to forgive me if I ask questions already answered, answering so many post on 2 forums tends to lead to that lol.

On my Windows 7 system I have a gaming keyboard with audio jacks built in. Every time Windows installs the keyboard it puts the audio on the keyboard as the default device and so I get no sound. Lets check a few more things on the list.

1. In the device manager is there a yellow ! on the sound? Can you post a screen shot of the device manager for me. If there is is there any errors with it?
2. Go to Sound in the control panel and open it, on the play back tab get me a screen shot.
3. Make sure the Windows Audio service is running.

Lets go from there :-)

Shane
