Re: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/115149-stop-application-data-folder-replicating.html#post990903
Seems to be a problem that occurs (only?) with 64-bit Windows 7.  A free utility called "JunctionBox" can sometimes cure the problem caused by either: "Taking Ownership" or "Restoring Permissions" of the "c:\User" folder.
Note: would also like to know whether the "Tweaking.com - Windows Repair 1.6.2" sub-feature called: "Reset File Permissions" would have any unintended consequences, related to this problem.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah it does look to be a side affect since the user now has the permissions to get into the folder and then it is a never ending loop.

So I will load a fresh install of Windows 7 and see what permissions it should be at. I will then add that to the reset file permissions repair :-)

That should fix the side effect.

By the way, thanks for the link. That junctionbox program shows me what sections need what. Allowing me to make the reset file permissions repair even better :-)

Working on an update right now.

Found the fix. And it is rather simple.

My reset file permissions puts everyone with full access. On the Application Data folder I simply need to put the everyone group to deny. Problem fixed :-)

I will researching what other folders need this as well and will be adding it to the reset file permissions

From what I've read, every subsequent machine re-boot will create yet another "nested Application Data folder".
So: a full repair utility would also need to clean up the "nested mess" left behind.
Or: are you saying that the "nested mess" will automatically clear itself up, once the permissions situation has been corrected?

Once the everyone permissions has been fixed it will be all done. :cheesy:

It isnt creating a new folder on each boot. When you click the Application Data folder it is linking back to itself. So it is a never ending loop. Once the everyone permissions is set to deny listing it will keep that from happening

Working on the code right now as we speak :-)

Got it done :-)

46 folders in all the repair now sets back to deny to stop any endless loops.

If you like I can give it to you now or you can wait till sunday when I put out the update

Sounds good.
I'll just wait for the next "official release".
Question: does your utility first check for the Windows version being used, and then apply the appropriate corrections to XP, Windows 7, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.?

I am going to put the update out today. Seems to big of a bug to let wait till Sunday.

This isn't a problem in XP only vista and newer and the program only runs the extra step on vista or newer (it checks what versions of windows your on)

Update will be out shortly. Thanks again for bringing this to my attention. :cheesy:

Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (All in One) v1.6.3
http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html

v1.6.3
Major improvement for the Reset File Permissions repair. On vista and newer the repair would allow access to folders windows normally blocked. Such as "C:\ProgramData\Application Data". Normally with this folder you would get an access denied. After you ran the reset file permissions repair you could access it. The side effect was that this folder points back to the C:\ProgramData folder. So it made an endless loop! The repair now checks if your on anything newer than XP. If you are then it runs a batch of commands after the repair that puts back the deny permissions on all the folders that are supposed to be blocked. This stops that endless loop from happening. 46 folders total. :-)
