Hello!
According to Norton advisor, windows 8 defrag program is missing. He recommended getting support from Microsoft, but it requires a product key, which I can not discover anywhere on the tower box. Please advise how to re-install that programme without cd - this new (5months)Asus pc came with pre-installed windows 8 without separate disk.
Thank you!

Shane:
Did you go and confirm that the defrag exe is missing?

Are you able to open a cmd.exe as administrator and then in there type in defrag c: and does it work?

If you are missing system files then just open a cmd.exe as administrator and run
SFC /scannow

SFC is the system file checker that is built into Windows :-)

The list the advisor showed me contained no defrag program.
I managed to call up cmd.exe window and enter commands as suggested.
However the reply is that I am not authorized and that I need to open a "console or panel meeting"(german: Konsolensitzung)..I am at a loss, sorry!

Shane:
You need to run the cmd.exe Window as administrator :-)

Since Windows 8 makes it a pain just go to C:\Windows\System32 and in there do to cmd.exe and right click on it and choose run as administrator :-)

Thank you, this time I managed to get the command to work with administrator rights.
defrag c: was a pre-optimization information on disk space (see photo). No other information followed for the 10 minutes I waited, after which I closed the cmd window, as no further command could be entered either.
SFC scannow: apparently after checking 100% it found no integrity issues (see 2. attachment)

After this I re-tried windows programme defragmentation and optimization of c:, which resulted in process being re-directed ( 3rdattachment).

Can you make anything of it?
