sound, password and view problems

I have several problems that are driving me crazy. Problem #1 (not in order) is a lack of sound on the speakers. The headphones work o.k. and problem searching with my very limited computer skills don´t show any error. Problem #2 is a problem with password retention. When I sign in to a site that needs my user name and password, the web site forgets who I am, either after a few minutes or after every page change or both which means a constant relog-in to be able to properly participate in discusions around the site. Problem #3 is when I´m on a page with ads, most of the ads show up blank, very frustrating as my home page shows not only the url as expressed in the select box in the explorer set-up guide in the controll panel but adds "/Fullpage AD/" as well which means that all I see is a blank page. Problem #4 is that when I type in a message very often I will have a Word show the first letter as capitalised (see Word in this sentence) somewhere in the sentence. Problem #5 is that the machine is sometimes very, very slow. Another problem, although I don´t know if this is a software problem, is that the machine (HP DV6 laptop) runs very warm and the fans are so loud they would dry up milk cows from 50m. I also have a HP DV7 and it runs completely silent. Please let your answers be in baby steps as I have very little computer repair skills although I do want to learn more. Windows 7 home premium, sp1, HP DV6 laptop, Intel core i7 2760, 8gb minne, 1tb disk.

Since you said it is a DV7 I take it that this is a laptop. If head phones work then that means that sound is working on the system and it is possible the speakers are bad, I have seen that happen a lot of times. For customers of mine who have had that happen, they used their laptops at home on a desk and never moved them so I just had them hook up normal speakers to it and they where fine. Not a good solution if you travel with it though :-)

Anything that has to do with sites and passwords is always related to cookies. If you have it set that your browser never accepts cookies then the login info for the site your on wont get saved and so it will keep asking you to log in. So first thing to check is to make sure you have cookies enabled :-)

Havent seen that problem before, what browser are you using? IE, Firefox, chrome?

You mean when you type certain words it auto changes the first letter to a capital? What programs does it do that in? Sounds like a forum of auto correct.

If the CPU is under a constant load then it will make more heat, which then the fans run louder and faster to try and cool it down. Plus if something is sucking up the CPU it can slow other things down.

When the system slows down, open the task manager and take a look at the number of total processes you have. These will be all the things running on the system. 60 processes or less is always good, a lot more than that then things slow down a lot. Also in the task manager you can see how much CPU and memory is being used. If something is using up the memory or has a memory leak it will force Windows to use the page file, which is a file on the hard drive and is dramatically slower. You can use my free version of my CleanMem tool on my other site to help with memory :-)

Actually it is the DV6 with the speaker problem. I have the Tech manual so if I feel brave enough I´ll open it up and see if there is a loose Connection. Cookies were enabled but I have now pushed cookie usage to the highest level and hope that solves that problem. I am using IE #11 and have installed the latest Adobe flash player (13.0.0.206) but the problem is still there. What is even more annoying is that on the F1 website the race Circuit is not shown which means that I must use the DV7 to show the Circuit and the DV6 for live timing. And how do I fix the auto correct (twice in the last sentence). Checking the task manager I see a processer usage of about 2-3% and a memory usage of about 4.39gb out of 8.8gb total. The fan goes hyper when the processer usage excedes 4-5%. I have a lot of processes running but have absolutely no idea as which ones can be shut down/turned off to help with keeping things faster and cooler. Do I do a google to find CleanMem? I´m running an Intel i7 2670QM 2.2gb 4 core 8 hyperthread with 8.8gb memory and 1tb hard drive bus Clock 1333meg if this is any help. I´ll sign on to several forum sites to see if the password problem has been solved. This may take a Little while as I must try to get a Little sleep (06.10 now here). Thanks so far.

4 Gb of used memory is actually a lot. While you have plenty of memory left I am running on a system with 12 Gb of memory, 70 processes in the back ground and I am barley using 2 GB of memory. So if you have something using up that much memory there is a good chance it has a memory leak and Windows is using the page file a bit.

For the cookies you may need to empty them all as well in case there is a bad or corrupt cookie causing the problem.

As for the the auto correct, that would be a setting in IE but I have to look up where. IE isnt the best browser, if you are willing give firefox or chrome a try, I myself use firefox.

As for the speakers, it is possible it is a lose connection or just a bad wire. Laptops can be a pain taking apart, it is like a jiz saw puzzle lol

But before you go through that hassle you could do one thing to confirm it is the speakers and not something odd in Windows. Reason why I say that is a lot of times Windows has a way to detect if you plug in head phones, the sound card reports it and Windows may simply think the speakers are not plugged in when they are. To test this we simply need to use a different operating system and see if they work. And of course we dont want to go and reinstall the OS, so what I do is download the Ubunut Linux iso file and then use their USB tool and make a USB thumb drive bootable with it. You can run Ubuntu right off of it instead of installing and then you can see if the sound works in ubuntu. If it does then we know the speakers are fine, if sound doesnt work then we know it is the speakers :-)

Now, on the number of processes running in the back ground. The trick is to simply disable them from startup, the programs will still be installed :-)

Go to the start button and in the search put in
msconfig

When you open it go to the services tab, but a check to hide Microsoft services and then uncheck any service you think you dont need running. Then click on the startup tab and uncheck each program you dont think you need to be loading up at startup. Hit apply and when you reboot you should have a much better boot time since so much less is loading.

The programs are still installed, you just disabled them starting at startup :wink:

I use CCleaner, HistoryKill and Malware on a regular basis to keep my system free from unwanted stuff through deletion so if there is Another way to delete all cookies, do tell. As to the rest of your reply: ? I am a super newbie and need baby step instructions to be able to impliment the steps you suggest. Old dog (69) hard Learning new tricks. Btw, even with full cookie access allowed (as far as I know) the password dilemma still exists.
