Desktop Icons Disappearing??

(1/2) > >>

shibumi:
Hi there, as you can see I am a newbie to this forum so I hope Shane or someone can help. The problem is that my Desktop Icons have disappeared leaving only the name of the program showing, all the programs are there only no Icons showing, clicking on the name opens the program.
I down loaded the Windows Club Icon Cache rebuilder, ran the rebuilder and rebooted the system and the Icons returned, only to disappear again at the next reboot. I ran the rebuilder again and the Icons came back only to vanish again at the next reboot.  I then downloaded your Windows Repair (all in one) did everything that was required and exactly the same thing happened the Icon came back and then disappeared again at the next reboot. How do I permanently keep the Icons showing?? and not having to run the rebuilder or Windows Repair after each reboot. Many thanks. Shibumi.

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.

Shane:
My Windows repair deletes the icon database and Windows rebuilds it.

If it keeps getting messed up then something else is wrong somewhere.

First thing to do is a chkdsk on the drive, make sure no bad sectors.

Hi Shane, what a quick response, thanks.  I have done chkdsk and all is well no bad sectors. Shibumi

Then the next step would be to create a new user and see if it keeps happening for that user as well. This will at least tell us if it is a problem with the profile
