             Did you try to reset internet explorer. Go to Tools Option, and then Advanced button. There you will find the reset button. Close all the programs and then reset. This will solve many problems. The window updates if any could be later updated using window updates. It is an automated task.

Have you also tried a different browser such as firefox or chrome to see if the same thing happens there as well?

As for your restore points, can you check Configure and ensure there is space allocated and it is not set to 0MB.

As the computer is clean from infection, open a command prompt as an administrator and enter sfc /scannow and let us know what it reports.
