What I have done is just tried to open quite a few windows. I have an icon on bottom task-bar for the more commonly used programs. Firefox, Photoshop, VideoReDo etc I set them to open maximum size. I can see the icons on the task bar at bottom of screen & if I move the cursor over these icons I can see the programs name whether the program is open or not.
If I then open Notebook in a somewhat smaller window it opens flashes & then sits on the task-bar & where I can reopen it if I click on it. As soon as the cursor moves off window the window which was underneath is displaced & Notebook is back on the task -bar.
Someone asked If I ever had the situation where all new windows opened on the bottom of the stack. The answer is yes but since then I have had a complete reinstall of Windows.
I get the feeling that it might me fault of a setting for the mouse or for Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer sometimes does strange things like a few days back it resused to open disk manager. It always offers to look for a solution. Can I turn this offer of fixing the problem off as I have never, ever had it find a solution for anything?
Maybe it gets broken because of the updates. A few days ago Windows had about another 17 updates.
I hope that this helps explains things a bit better than before.

Hi, Peculiar things happening in your desktop.
Do your problem is the desktop tray programs in the status bar does not open at the first attempt or it just flashes and then remain on status bar as icon?(without opening)
Shane:
I do know that the task bar does have a lot of hidden settings and options. I just have to trace where they are located, normally in the registry.
Does the right click menu work on the icons? Also as a test have you tried creating a new user account in windows and seeing how it does on it? Reason why that would help is if it happens to the new account as well then I know the problem is most likely in the hkey_local_machine. But if the new user account doesn't have the problem then that tells me the problem is most likely in the hkey_current_user section
Also could you export out this registry key for me and post them.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband
and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband
I want to compare the settings you have there with a default system.
Also looks like a few other sections we will check later as well

Every morning before anything else is ever done I do a complete scan of my Machine with Malware Bytes pro as well as Avaste anti-virus. The most that I ever find is an unwanted pup. Everytime I download any program I install carefully & opt out of any extra add on's like toolbars. Even though you have opted out some programs install there wares anyway. I mostly do a restore point before I run Ashampoo uninstalled 5 program which logs the install so that you can reverse it if necessary. I then catch them with the any pup's with supsequent scans. I always opt out of every survey or questionaire as I'm well aware about data mining.
Windows & now several other programs offer to update drivers but as you may know these can be terribly wrong. I can recall that Windows told me that my old PC turner card had the best driver available. It never worked. I had to get the correct detals from the manufacturer in Hong Kong.
The bottom line is that I'm very cautious about everything that happens on the internet & always proceed with extreme caution.
But I also know that programs that do similar things look at diverent things & perhaps interprey what it sees in different ways. For instance I can reun the much recommended CCleaner & it finds & deletes what it finds. If I were to then run Ashampoos Win Optomizer 11 immedieately after this it says that it's found more things that are either whong or vould be better. Maybe between them they sometoimes either delete or change things that they shouldn't.
You geve me two places to look at & report upon in REGEDIT. Rathet than expand the tree as I go I decided to try the search function where tou tell it to find 'Tashband' You then tell it to find the next instance of that word in your search.
I did the search for the first location & then using snip took a picture of it. Your then supposed to press F3 to search for the next instand of "Tashband'. Pressing F3 takes me to Taskpband pin' which is located within other loactions with with very long names & most of each address is made up aminly very long numbers whaich seem to mean nothing to me.
As for the second location you gave to search I did a post & past into regedit search & this didn't find anything at all.
I have attached 2 snip photos but they don't display in the preview. I hope that this is what you want.
Shane:
No, dont do a search for it, you have to go directly to it.
Just open reg edit and expand each section till you get to it, just like I did in the screen shot as an example.
