Trouble with Windows Firewall after installing Windows 8.1 Pro

Shane:
That is odd that it is doing that, you could do a sfc /scannow on the system and see if it finds anything. But I am also curious to why you couldnt get AVG off the system.

AVG has already off the system and the firewall still remained the same. I did try to fix the firewall through registry editor but nothing can solve this. i was thinking of sending it to the shop for repair but i can't imagine what would they do with my newly upgraded windows and how much they will charge for it.

Boggin:
There's recently been another case on another forum where uninstalling AVG left Windows Firewall disabled in XP which is resulting in a reinstall.

Using msconfig/Boot tab you can create a Boot Log to see if any of AVGs components remain - one that seems to hang on is avgtpx and even when that has been deleted, the firewall has still been unable to be restarted.

The log can be read by double clicking on Windows/ntbt where it will open in Notepad.

With Win 8.1 you have a Reset option which is the equivalent of a factory reset of the OS, so you will need to back up your personal stuff and reinstall any programs/printers afterwards - probably cheaper than taking it in for a repair which the tech may still have to do, but you could try the Repair install https://www.winhelp.us/non-destructive-reinstall-of-windows-8-and-8-1.html and hopefully repairs any damage AVG did.

Shane:
Did you try the newest version of my Windows Repair (v2.11.2) and run ALL the repairs?
