(Solved) Need Video Driver for Windows 7 For an IBM R51 Think Pad

<< < (2/7) > >>

VicTully:
The site mentioned above does not list a video driver for Vista or Windows 7. I was hoping someone had found another driver that did work, even though it is not lsited. I have seen that happen before.

Thanks again.

Forgot to add the AMD link for auto detect and install - http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Edit - Did your machine original come with Win 7 or have you upgraded from XP as I don't see any Win 7 drivers on http://www.driverslib.com/Notebook/IBM/ThinkPad-R51.html

Although I'm not sure what that Universal update one is.

VicTully:
The machine came with XP. I am upgrading to Windows 7 to be more secure. I am going to upgrade all my machines to 7, if possible. If I can't do this one I may put a version of Linux on it, but I am not going back to XP. I also have a Think Pad T60 to do next.

I wish to thank all those that have tried to help. I know I can come here and get the right answers, not a bunch of dead ends, Thanks again.

Boggin:
Before you upgrade to Win 7 you will need to run the Win 7 Upgrade Advisor on each machine. http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=20

Win 7 x32 will only recognise up to 4GB RAM whereas the 64 bit version can handle a lot more - forget how much now as I believe it's version dependent, but the max RAM you can fit is also dependent on what the motherboard can take and Crucial's Scanner will tell you that. http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en

While Win 7 x 32 bit can run on 1GB RAM and Win 7 x64 bit on 2GB, doubling up on those for each will be a better option for performance.

And when you are ready, this article may be of use and hope it works out for you. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows7/help/upgrading-from-windows-xp-to-windows-7#T1=tab01

VicTully:
Boggin,

Thanks for your excellent suggestions. Unfortunately, I already have Windows 7 on the R51. I didn't backup the XP version. Normally, someone has found a different driver that has worked on the machine in question, even though it is not listed as being one that would work on the OEM site.

I was hoping to find that on the net somewhere, but no luck so far.

Thanks again,

vic
