As you have found, it's a router/USB adapter setting but will only give you the full 300Mbps if you aren't using any g devices.

EDIT - Open a command prompt and enter netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid to see if you are on the best channel.

have applied this tweak; will see if it helps.

Did not resolve the main issues of Wifi/speed

Those tweaks that you've done are Ethernet related for file transfer using the Atheros Gigabit LAN.

I would try a different channel as 70% isn't that good.

Did the netsh command pick up any other SSIDs besides what you've attached ?

This is what I get from an ISP supplied router (2nd one down on 94%)

Yes, but while 70% is adequate, you should be able to get a stronger signal strength by changing the channel - why did you change from channel 11 to channel 8 ?

Microwave ovens operate around channel 9 and if you are within 10ft of one, on channel 8 you could get a channel overlap interference if it's on when you are using your computer.
