Win 7 x64 bit won't update Error 80070002
cosmos31:
I downloaded about 18 updates a month ago and my laptop was never the same. Dell Inspiron running Win 7 Home Premium edition 64 . After using the Tweaking program it is much better but still runs very slow, I seem to be getting memory issues yet I have 35 gig on the hard drive which is 75 % full, but I also have 4 gig of ram. Can anyone show me what to do to resolve this issue ?

Clearing the temp cache with the free version of CCleaner will help. https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
Before you run CCleaner to clear the cache, uncheck the box for Memory Dumps under the Windows tab before clicking on Analyze.
http://www.howtogeek.com/113382/how-to-use-ccleaner-like-a-pro-9-tips-tricks/
Go Start - type %temp% and press enter to see how full that is.
If the Temp folder is highly populated then click on Organize - Select all - Organize - Delete - confirm - check the box and click on Skip.
There should only be a Debug file left - if there are any more with a substantial size, then repeat from Organize.
Go Start - type disk cleanup and right click on Disk Cleanup and select Run as administrator.
The default items are sufficient and this will free a few GBs from cleaning out obsolete Windows Updates.
When that's done, reboot for it to reconfigure the updates then run a defrag.
You may also have a number of programs running in the background because they are in the Startup menu of msconfig and you don't really need any under that tab as they will unnecessarily be taking up memory.
Go Start - type msconfig and press enter - click on the Startup tab then click on Disable all - Apply - OK and follow the prompt to reboot.
Infections can also slow a computer up, but let us know if those steps have improved the performance.

OK, for some reason the link you provided did not work. Said Access denied when I attempted to run:
esentutl /g <%systemroot%>\System32\catroot2\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\catdb, and then press ENTER.
I got message "Access Denied", so found this site instead and ran the instructions.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc734083%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
anyway followed steps but did not see anything that said it was repairing the database...
Still have the same error that I cannot update Windows....
Continued thanks for your assistance!
Shane:
According to MS that error means some files for Windows updates are missing

Can you see if any of those steps help, if they do then I can see about adding any missing to steps to my repairs :-)

From your opening post I assumed you had been able to install those 18 Windows Updates and then the computer became sluggish.
Was it CCleaner that you got access denied when you tried to download or run the program after installation.
