Router Wireless Slow Speed

(1/7) > >>

dondon:
I bought this new tenda wirelees N300 home router, model f300 and i have to say the speed is really slow, devices connected to it drop from time to time and lag is on a daily basis.I use the router at my student hostel and for certain there are other routers working on the same storey, about 20 or more.We have only 3 devices connected to our router but we use it only for online videos and gaming.OS differs on each device:Windows XP,Windows 7 and Windows 10.

Have to mention  i have the same router home and hardly ever had lagspikes(owing to router) or drops.I know i can tweak around and give up wireless for wired connection as it is way faster but i want to know how could i possibly improve wireless router connetion.Below ill post some images to get an better preview of the problem:

Boggin:
11Mbps shared between 3 computers streaming video and gaming will pull the speed down.

With just the Win 7 machine on, what is the download speed like www.speedtest.net

Let's see if changing channels as well will improve on the disconnects and lag.

Open a cmd prompt as an admin by going Start - type cmd then right click on cmd and select Run as administrator - accept the UAC then enter

netsh wlan show networks mode=bssid

To copy & paste the output of the cmd window, right click in the text area then click on Select all then press enter.

Right click in the reply box and select Paste.

The 3rd link under your System Tools - is that when you are wired to a separate modem ?

dondon:
Pls note that that speed was registered when only 1 device(Windows 10) was viewing a football match over the internet.Anyway tryied your command on my XP device since i can't used my roommates laptops and ... The following command was not found: wlan show networks mode=bssid. ... .And about the 3rd link at System Tools menu,no,its when i am connected to the Wireless Router, without an wire.

Boggin:
Did you put netsh in front of that cmd ?

The 3rd item has a Default Gateway of 10.0.0.1 which is usually when you are wired to a separate modem and getting the ISP's.

You will note that the router's Default Gateway is 192.168.0.1 which is DHCP generated.

You will note that the 10.0.0.1 is showing a different Subnet Mask to your ipconfig /all from the router.

What were you connected to get that screen shot ?

dondon:
I swear on all gods that i wasn't connected at all through any wired cable when i took  that pictures and i was connected wirelessly to my router. And by gateway 192.168.0.1,its the router addres i need to type in the browser addres bar to acces its interface. Why 10.0.0.1,I believe it is so because de protocol the router uses its PPoE(requiring a username and password). My router uses that registration forms to give internet acces through the WAN cable it is connected to and broadcast that signal within its vicinity so that I can connect to it and get not only local acces(LAN) but also Internet Acces(WAN).
