Repairs Icon - Can not fix

<< < (4/5) > >>

Yes, but did not get an answer.

Please note that the system does not create a lot of restore points because it takes a lot of disk space (many, many gigabytes)
I do not need very old restore points that occupy the space on the disk 10-20 GB or more !

Boggin:
I hope you start making regular system images then to external media which would probably have gotten you out of this situation.

I create one following all of the monthly updates after first checking that the system hasn't been affected by any updates as creating them onto an external HHD, overwrites the previous image.

makinero:
I do not know why, but after a while I always have to solve the problem when other ideas fail.  No need for any restore points, and other stupid scripts!Super-easy solution. My idea work. Smart ideas are born always in mind.

Boggin:
Alright then - how did you fix it ?

From the info you gave you were sure it was caused by the upgrade to v4.40.

Shane:
It sounds like it wasnt a icon corruption but instead the default icon for that file type simply got changed.

One way I have fixed it before is to right click on one of the files, go to open with and then click choose default program, choose a different program and put a check to make it the default. Windows then changes the icons to match the program. Then I got back and do it again and put it back on the orig program and it switches it back again.

I have to do this a lot actually because I have customers who try opening the wrong file types in the wrong programs, I dont know how they manage it but they do lol
