New windows 7 install will not update (multiple computers)

Modern conflicts are well out of my time - I came out in '75

I did a 4 month tour in N. Ireland which was pretty uneventful and we were billeted in a quiet area.

I was a REME vehicle mechanic so didn't get up front, although I went out on a vehicle patrol with the Royal Green Jackets and later was involved in a major Vehicle Checkpoint.

Another time, being attached to a Royal Engineers squadron, was choppered out to an area to blow up some border crossings - not sure if my boss was trying to get rid of me :)

I have been deployed twice.... Iraq and Afghanistan...Iraq sucked, we were bombed at least 3-4 times a day.
Once i found out i was going to Aghanistan everyone made up horror stories about how it was worse than Iraq..... but for me it was not... we were bombed twice... all of us stood around like we were confused lol.... then the we heard the English jets brrrrrrrrup... I love that sound lol.

In Iraq i did help out the royal army... i was told they were the equivalent of our special forces..... these guys were huge like they were bred to be special forces..... I received a coin from them for helping... lol its funny they were called the bad pussies and the coin is an image of a bad ass looking kitty.

so i keep on getting this error stating not enough memory on two of the three computers i am working on now.... all they are doing is updating... they both have 2 gigs of ram and 2.2 ghz dual cores.....

pushing one to windows 10 ..... fingers crossed.

As well as reading through this article, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/preventing-low-memory-problems#1TC=windows-7 perform a clean boot.

That is when you go Start - type msconfig and press enter then under the Startup tab hit the Disable all button - Apply - OK.

After the reboot go back into msconfig and ensure if the AV program is one of those start up items that it is running, or you can re-check its box after hitting the Disable all button but before you hit Apply etc.

Paid for AV programs will auto reinstate themselves as soon as you hit the Apply button but some of the freebies don't.

Unnecessary programs in Start up will be unnecessarily be taking up memory - I only have one in mine and that is for my printer.

A defragged HDD will also aid Virtual Memory so that is something else worth checking and then see if you still get the insufficient error message.

Before you defrag/analyse the HDD, go Start - type %temp% and press enter, if that is highly populated then click on Organize - Select all - Organize - Delete - confirm - check the box then click on Skip and close the window.

The Recycle Bin will need emptying then.

It's surprising how many people don't maintain their computers.

Win 7 has it's own tools as well in Control Panel - System and Security/Find and fix problems to use the maintenance and performance tools.

If the HDDs are getting low on space then you can free up some - poss. up to 3GB by going Start - type disk cleanup - right click on Disk Cleanup and Run as administrator.

This will scan for obsolete Windows Updates and add those to the other default items which is normally sufficient.

If the HDDs are really short on free space and the owners don't use Hibernate, you can turn that off in an elevated cmd prompt with the cmd powercfg -h off and that will free up about 6GB.

A defrag after that may also be warranted.

I will try this after i catch up on my college work....

as of now they are all updated (the three i am currently working on as of now)
though when i try to upgrade to windows 10 i get something went wrong.... or unknown command line errors....
WTH Microsoft?

Boggin:
Event Viewer may have something on that but are you trying to upgrade through Windows Updates ?

Clicking on the Upgrade now button in https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/windows-10-upgrade may prove more successful.

I assume you resolved the insufficient memory error ?
