"Web page does not respond because of a long-acting script"
Willy2:
- I have the same problem with a long running script and it only surfaces at one particular website. I don't use FF, but the problem pops up in IE 11 as well. So, it's my assumption that FF - in spite of tabs supposedly being in STANDBY mode - does load the (all ??) files for (all ??) the tabs.
- It also could a conflict of the (java- (???)) script and the MS spelling checker program/process that starts every time one wants to type e.g. comment or a reply.
- And when it comes to memory usage both Chrome & FF are/can be a REAL "pain in the a**".
- Question: Is memory usage (much) lower when you open only a few tabs ?
makinero:
add-on for power users that have many tabs open :D
The middle way of measure is ever golden. = Keep the golden.
Suspend Tab 1.0.2016020401
Suspends background old tabs automatically to save memory usage.

Willy2:
But FF has (based on my limited experiences with the program) a lousy memory management. If one closes a tab then that will reduce memory usage only modestly/slightly. The best way to reduce memory usage is to close the program. Another reason to NOT use FF.
Boggin:
I'd agree with not using FF because it's such a resource hog.
You may want to consider using Pale Moon if you like that sort of thing and I've seen a number of people deserting FF for PM.

Samson:
+1 for PM, there are even builds available for legacy OS (XP) and legacy hardware (Non SSE2 processors)
