windows update failure to configure

<< < (2/3) > >>

Boggin:
I'm not sure why that is but is Event Viewer (Local) at the top left highlighted and do you get the categories of Critical, Error and Warning etc. prior to clicking on the name Error ?

If you continue to get the Event ID 1107 after a failed update config, then I would contact MS, but I'll ask Shane about it.

I have decided to call out the computer tech. The problem has been occurring too long. I did contact Microsoft and they didn't have a solution either, in fact they pointed to Tweaking.com with (use at your own risk) warning.
Thank you very much Boggin, for looking at my problem. It is very much appreciated.

Boggin:
They've got a cheek when it has been reported that MS techs have used WR when they were stuck.

One thing I do though before using any major program like WR for the first time is to create an external system image.

I could have gotten my fingers burned if I hadn't done that shortly after getting my first laptop, when I bought UniBlue's Power Suite which was supposed to be a tune up program.

It damaged system files beyond repair, but fortunately I had the foresight to create an image to restore from.

I must admit that my older Toshiba Win 7 laptop isn't too keen on WR or having any tweaks done to it.

Anyway, hope you come back to let us know what the techs found - sometimes it's easier to just factory reset which they may opt for.

The techie came and picked up the laptop. He saw that I had used Tweaking.com and asked how it had performed. Told him all the stuff I had done and he was amazed that nothing had worked. Hopefully he'll bring the laptop back tomorrow morning. Will let you know any results

frodi:
The techie came late this afternoon with the sad news that he couldn't fix the problem. He tried everything he could think of and ended up doing a repair install, which also did not fix the problem. I don't want to completely reinstall windows 7, so that is it!
The technician also told me that some of his customers want to buy a laptop with windows 7 OS. When he puts that in, it comes without the Update component!!! I guess Microsoft is forcing people to install Windows 10, whether they like it or not.
