More Tools in Step 1 Window (Antivirus Tools)
« on: November 29, 2011, 12:22:59 AM »
Hi Shane, I'm back.
I think ComboFix may be dangerous for newbies users however is a good addition.
You may consider to add these two other free tools:

-McAfee Stinger (http://www.mcafee.com/us/downloads/free-tools/stinger.aspx)
 direct download: http://downloadcenter.mcafee.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger/stinger.exe
-Remove Fake Antivirus (http://freeofvirus.blogspot.com/2009/05/remove-fake-antivirus-10.html)
 direct download: http://olzen.info/RemoveFakeAntivirus.exe

I just tried combofix for the first time a few days ago. I normally remove infections on my customers machines myself.
But on this one machine none of my tools where finding the rootkit. I knew there was one. Combofix found it, and in turn earned my respect.

While using it, it seems to be totally automated, so it seemed rather safe. So I added it to my toolbox :-)

Why is it any more dangerous than the other cleaners?

Shane

I have been using Combofix on customers machines for years now.  It is an excellent tool and has often found infections that no other tool would find.
