If your install disk didn't include SP1, when you boot up with it and select Repair your Computer and it checks the OS to repair, you would normally get a compatibility error - otherwise you should be able to navigate to the Recovery Environment as I've described.
I was having some problems with the disk drive on that laptop in burning the disks, but they checked out okay on that machine.
I'll burn you another couple on my other Win 7 laptop to see if they work any better for you.

am sure u'll be as disappointed as me....i got the same incompatibility error using the new disc. I suspect its time to face the music and reinstall, what do u think

I just don't understand that.
It looks like you don't have any option left but to reinstall.
The install disk that you have - are you sure it is for Ultimate and 64 bit and do you have a 5x5 alphanumeric product key to activate it with ?
