Microsoft Update and Security Essentials problem
Trainman:
Dear friends
I used your Windows Repair tool to avoid a total reboot of Windows at my laptop - but unsuccessfuly.
After some virus attacks, my Lenovo cannot perform Windows Update (error code 80246008), neither inform the Windows Security Essential programm (error code 0x80072efe and 80240022).
Do you have any ideas of what I could do in order to avoid the backing up-windows reboot nightmare?
Thanks in advance
Andreas
Shane:
What version of my repair program did you run and what version of Windows are you on?

Hi Shane
I am on Windows 7 Professional and I used "All In One" v1.8.0.

Shane:
Have you ran malwarebytes, tdsskiller and combofix yet?
If not, run those, reboot and let me know the results. If they find anything run my Windows repair again.
If they find nothing let me know

Hi Shane
That was an interesting but painful experience...
* "Malwarebytes" found 630 (or was it 530?) errors but no virus signs. It corrected about 100 and asked for a formal and payed registration for the rest. Bear in mind that I had already downloaded a "Registry Reviver" that usually finds about 5-10 errors every time.
* "Tdsskiller" found 7 "threads" of medium importance which I deleted.
* "Combofix" was very nasty. It seemd that it had deleted System 32 (or a large part of it). After rebooting the computer there could be absolutely no connection to the Internet. It seemed that the operation was succesfull but the patient passed away. Today that I rebooted my laptop everything had magically returned to its previous, normal condition. So...
...I tried to do the Microsoft Update but it failed
...I reapplied your All In One repair tool which it took much longer to function this time and retried the Microsoft Update but it failed again - automatically and manualy!
...Microsoft "Fix It" could not also solve the problem. Microsoft Help proposes to start a Service called BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service) which can't be found in my list of Services. Could the problem lie here?
I have started to wonder whether I should just buy an antivirus programm and stop wondering about Microsoft Updates until my laptop enters the Tech Museum, but the feeling that something's wrong won't stop to irritate me...
