Can you go into Device Manager and expand IDE ATAPI Controllers to check if you have Intel SATA AHCI Controller listed ?
If you have, read through this article to change the Intel SATA AHCI Controller and check for any residue as it has been known to cause at least one of those Failed.. errors and then you can retry the update.

Else you can get free help from MS for update problems but their usual response for when they can't fix is to reinstall.

Device Manager shows ATI 0, ATI 1, Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller. All of them have 3 entries. Both Controllers and the SSD(which shows as an ATA Device) have the latest drivers, which go back to 2006.
Boggin:
Give MS a ring to see what they have to say.
ChuckR:
The usual reply is SEND MONEY for help.

WU help used to be free - looks like they are earning their M$ moniker.
Have you tried it in a clean boot - otherwise I'd just leave it to see what December's brings.
