(Solved) Defrag program incompatible with W8.1

<< < (3/4) > >>

Willy2:
- The question should have been: what (kind of) files are showing up in the file list after the program has defragmented the drive (just defragment all fragmented files) ?

Lady:
I had taken a look at the files and they're all sorts of files, mostly from my antivirus/firewall program BullGuard and Adobe. Here are a few (sorry, the tabs didn't get copied):

I also looked in Piriform's forum and saw exactly the same problem......without an answer.

So I ran defrag /c too. Maybe the simple answer to this is that Defraggler is the only program which lists undefragged files?

Boggin:
Did the cmd show all volumes as 0% Fragmentation on completion ?

Lady:
Yes, it did.

Right after I defragged with Windows I ran Defraggler's analysis as I forgot something I needed for my previous answer here and it showed that C: now has 3% fragmentation.   Are we rooting for Windows or for Piriform?  :cheesy:

- Right. These files are "locked" and can't be moved\defragmented.
- Same story for the files of the folder "System volume Information" on a Win 7 system where the files for the System Restore Points are placed. But Win XP allows the program these files to be moved. A matter of permissions, I assume.
- Yes, that's a "negative" for this program. Wouldn't know if the regular build-in disk defragmentation program is able to defragment those files.
- I use the program to regularly move all non-system files towards the end of the drive and all system folders (e.g. c:\Program files, C:\Users, C:\windows, .............. ) to the beginning of the drive.
