Hardware checks

Hey Shane

On occasion my system gets a hum to it (Sounds electrical). How do I perform a hardware check? I'm using windows 7 64 bit home premium on an hp machine that I loaded windows 7 on.

Shane:
Does the hum happen as your using the system more?

Reason I ask is a lot of times the cpu fan is set to auto and will pick up speed as the cpu temp rises. Which of course will give a louder humming noise.

Next time it happens take the side of the case off and see if you can pin point where the hum is coming from.

Sounds like an electrical  buzz coming from the hard drive vicinity. Ram is right behind it, so I did perform the windows ram check. It's definitely not the cpu fan. It will happen idle or while I'm using it. I pulled the computer apart and cleaned it inside, so far no electrical buzzing. I don't know if unplugging it and hitting the power button to completely discharge it for cleaning helped yet. Guess I'll have to give it some time and see.

That will help :-)

I already took the side case just to make sure something wasn't overheating.
