I had explained in my Reply #5 how to change the DNS servers in the computer.

This article may be of interest to you regarding DNS servers - https://www.howtogeek.com/122845/htg-explains-what-is-dns/

I forgot until I needed to change the DNS servers on a friend's computer the other day that Shane has a small program to do just that - http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/tweaking_com_change_dns_servers.html

thanks for all the trouble............but i think i'll live with the lack of colours.............rather than risk getting into more problems :cheesy:

by the way................how often should i run this Windows All In One..........every several months....?

Boggin:
You could create a system image onto external media before having a go with that program and see how you get on.

If you aren't having any problems then there's no need to run any repair programs or commands, but some to remember are -

dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow

and to check the integrity of the HDD, you can run chkdsk /r but creating regular system images when the system is okay is always a good fall back.

However, whenever I get any problems with Win 10 I'll go straight for a repair install.

i'm still using Windows 7............32 bit............

how good is the program for checking HDD integrity ?...........if a problem is detected, is it already too late ?

Boggin:
Usually because when it reports KBs in bad sectors the damage has already started.

It will repair and move what files it can to undamaged blocks, but depending upon how many KBs it finds, deterioration can be quite quick from there on in.

If it just finds a few KBs then at least you are forewarned and can create a system image onto external media in preparation for its replacement when it finally goes.

On my Toshiba laptops there is a Toshiba HDD/SSD alert that will pop up but I don't know at what stage that would be.

I have the 30 day free trial of HDSentinel stored in my downloads folder which I'll run now and again and that will give you a written report.

I uninstall it straight after using it to stop the clock on the free trial and then run it again as and when, but I believe the Pro version monitors the HDD/SSD although I don't know at what stage it would start to alert.

Hit the green download button and then select the first free trial .zip. - https://www.hdsentinel.com/
