I've just seen your edit on this post.

I only have Macrium on my two Win 10 laptops and each loads the drivers for that machine onto the WPE disk but I have booted one machine with the other WPE.

While it will have the details from your Win 7 machine, it should still boot to the Macrium program for you to stick your external HDD in.

So when you fitted the SSD did you set it up as per that article or did the freezes just come out of the blue ?
