XP Machine Going To Sleep During All In One Repair

(1/4) > >>

Oscar:
Hi Shane with the new version 1.9.5 (and the last 1.9.4) seems to either go to sleep or hibernation, doesn't wake up with a move of thew mouse or pressing any key, i start it again with the power button.

Freezes early, when i wake it up it seems to have frozen.

Oscar:
Hi Shane i have kept the machine going by moving the mouse.

I am currently running the All In One 1.9.5, i started at 11.53am and is now 2.20pm and it is only got as far as RESET REGISTRY PERMISSIONS 03/03. It seems to be stuck on this.

I have aborted and will try again.

I have tried 3 times now.

Shane:
Skip that repair.

What is happening is you have a regkey somewhere that is pointing back to a different key that points back to it. it is a infinite loop. So when the program goes down that set of keys it is being redirect back to the start again from that redirection.

This isnt normal for the registry to do that. But for now just skip that repair and run the others

Oscar:
Hi Shane, i did what you suggested and it ran great, took about 1.5 hours to run, normally takes about 3 hours. It sounds like this is the hold up when i run the Repair.

Is there something i can possibly do to fix this?

Thanks again

Shane:
If there was a way to find out what key is pointing back to the root we could.

This is called symbolic links.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbolic_link

We find which key has the symbolic link causing the problem then we can remove that link so the infinite loop stops.
