Win 7 USB problem
(1/1)
theswami:
Hi
I have the dreaded Win7 USB problem, that results from upgrading from the basic to Service Pack 1. None of the Microsoft fixes have worked; every time I reboot, I have to uninstall almost all of the USB controllers then scan for new hardware. Even so, I've still got some of the 16385 drivers.
I recently changed the motherboard and added USB3 to the mix. Even that controller needs to be removed and scanned for.
I've corrected this on other computers but for some reason mine won't work. Any insight or help would be welcome.
Thanks, Ron

What are some of the repairs you have tried?

Hi thanks for replying.
I have the Microsoft hotfixes (KB2529073 in it's various versions) installed. that did not fix the problem.
I have run the 6.1.7601 USB Driver Update Fix at http://code.kliu.org/.etc/7601usbfix/ and that reports that my drivers are correct.
I have run all the fixes, including the old ones listed at http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/24666-The-Windows-7-SP1-USB-Driver-Bug-%28what-it-is-and-how-to-fix-it%29
the only thing I have not done is a reinstall.

What might be a good idea is a repair install. This way you keep all your programs and settings and only Windows gets reinstalled. And since you already have service pack one installed you will need a Windows 7 setup disk with SP1 already on it, here is that

And here is how to do a repair install :-)
