Can you give more details when you try to run sfc /scannow ?

I'll pass on your request for the Package files.

Have you tried the sfc /scannow in Safe Mode ?

Can you also see if chkdsk /f completes ?

EDIT - Are you using Vista or Win 7 ?

okay lets see...so can i get a snapshot of what the sfc /scannow says?
and also can i get you to copy and paste the missing cat and mum files so i can make sure i can get you the correct files :)
and for the bad sectors on the chkdsk /f report how much kb is in bad sectors?
you want that to be 0kb other wise it's hinting to a dying disk. in which case i would highly recommend backing up your hdd asap it can die now or it can die 6 months from now. better to be safe. :)

sfc  this is all it shows "windows resourse protection canot perform this request"
i guess the hd will crash it has 4 bad sectors
I have a mountail of files on it

the mainscreen now only shows standard colours not screen, even though i cannge the performance details   its getting strange

if i purchased a tb hd  and placed it in the computer and copied all the files from it including wndows then somhow resarted that new drive as the main drive would not all the fault follow
I cant even upgrade from a disc

While SFCFix.exe which is a 3rd party program is run after a sfc /scannow, see if that will run and it will produce it's own report in a Desktop icon which you can copy and paste and that should show the level of file corruption.

I wasn't sure if it could do anything without the CBS log that a sfc /scannow produces, but worth a shot.

Did the chkdsk /f report it had repaired any files ?

If you want, you could copy & paste that into the reply box by going back into Event Viewer to view it and then click on Copy/Copy details as text in the lower right pane.

As for the replacement HDD, it's difficult to know what data has been corrupted/lost and what exactly you'll be creating a system image from, but as the screen is now all to hell, boot up into Safe Mode to see if you can create a system image and a Repair disk if you haven't already.

While I've never had to do this myself, this article gives a simple walk through and I think it's going to have to be a case of seeing what you have after replacing the HDD.

The UPnP Device Host service depends on the SSDP Discovery service which failed to start because of the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Go Start - type services.msc and press enter.

Scroll down to SSDP - it should be showing as Started and Manual.

If it isn't showing as Started then click on it then on Start in the upper left pane.

If it is showing as Disabled then right click on it and select Properties then use the dropdown to change to Manual, hit the Start button - OK.

Close Services and reboot.

If it fails to start then go Start - type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

Click on View/Show hidden devices and scroll down to HTTP to see if it has a yellow alert next to it.

Are you using an OEM or custom built machine ?

With an OEM machine you usually have the option to create a set of Recovery disks which is a copy of what is in the Recovery partition and usually requires two DVDs but could be more.

(I use paper disk envelopes so that I can mark the envelope with the disk number).

This should be in Start - All Programs - your computer make folder.

If you have all of your personal stuff backed up then see if you have this facility to create the Recovery disks, then go for a new HDD which you can then change the Boot order (tap F12 as you switch on) to boot from the ODD and insert the first Recovery disk, because with all that is going on and a possible failing HDD, I think a factory reset will be the way to go with this.

would not the problem just be copied to the new hd
i would prefer to fix two isues first
1 sfc
2 areo

with all the checks and playing about the computer now boot fast so thats one out of the road
I noticed  that the the notice "this computer is activated "is now missing and reading some else stated this is a part of windows protection they drop aero and some other working parts
it was a original w7 some yeasr back
could that be the problem its run out of credit time ???

No, the problem wouldn't be copied to the new HDD because you would be restoring the computer to as out of the box with the Recovery disks.

Which version of Windows are you using now ?

 w7

thats for your help

It was just that you said it was Win 7 original some years back that I thought you may have upgraded from say Home Premium to Pro or higher.

If that had been the case then a factory reset would have taken you back to the original version.

Have you been able to create the recovery disks ?

from what i am reading on the web some of the problem are windows company caused
if a windows product is detected as a copy or the time has expired  windos clossed down the aero and some other section of the running of the program

Windows apparently did this to mine  as the screen went black background with a message this program require re ativation

I run a small program that i down loaded and it shoes all the product keys and showed they were  still active , so i at a loos what to do
does anyone know how to restart what windowws has removed

Once Windows is activated legally then it should remain so - it doesn't have an expiry date where it no longer becomes genuine.

However, occasionally you can get the not genuine message.

To find the status of yours, go Start - type activate windows - press enter and see what message it returns.

To reactivate, open a command prompt as an administrator and enter these cmds -

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

net start sppsvc

slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Then enter shutdown /r /t 00 to effect an immediate reboot and then redo "activate windows" to see what it reports.

I think there's a box somewhere at the bottom to fix reparse points, but can't remember where which was on an earlier version.

When you right click on the Taskbar and select Properties, is the Aero Peek box checked ?

The thing is with bad sectors on the HDD, there's no way of telling what is affected and if this is the cause of the WU problem.

Are you still going to get the new 1TB HDD and have you managed to create a set of Recovery disks ?

Probably best to create a full external system image as well, should the corruption be in the D: Recovery partition and the Recovery disks could be corrupt.

It looks like Win 7 has a built in Aero Troubleshooter https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976170

okay so if your aero box is checked change the layout because they will dumb it down to windows 7 basic theme. click on the aero theme. Took me a few moments to think where to look after my buddy was having activation issues. lol let me know if that does the trick. sounds basic but stumped me for a little haha.
your windows update can be fixed once you move your os to another hdd. the reason why i say this is because if your hdd is failing it's better to get everything on a new hdd as oppose to fixing it first then transferring to only have it corrupted once again and having to spend more time fixing it again.
sfcfix pointed out your first main issue with updating windows "WARNING: Failed to check store directories with return code 1 and error code ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND. COMPONENTS hive may be corrupt."

here is a step by step way to fix this

many thanks for your continual support
there is just to much to back up  so i will go abour seeing if i have back up programs to all i want
the problem will be trying to transfer all the email dats for their incredmail program
once finished them a new hard drive and re start again
the other small problem the original activation numbers are now useless   so  what program would be the best to reactivate them :)

all areo boxes dont show any detail onlay the borders colors
so hitting on them has no value exceprt to change the background color

the last section step by step is rather confusibg  like go to file hive, ??

is there a program or a method to realy clean out the regitary of old unused programs and there bits left  after undelete
I know there are a huge lot  and whaist they dont give a problem it would be nice to have a real clen reg to restart
