i used the software and ticked
Reset Registry Permissions
Reset File Permissions
Register System Files
Repair WMI
Repair Windows Firewall
Remove Policies set by Infections
Set Windows Services to Default startup
Still the problem is not solved when i go to Windows Firewall and click on use recommended settings the window freezes for some time then without any error it just goes back to normal without switching on the windows firewall
When i go to services and try to switch on Windows Firewall it does not work too...
I basically need Windows Firewall just so that i can use Internet Connection Sharing service( Apparently it doesnt work if the Windows Firewall Service is not started)...
All help will be Appreciated... Thank you !

What version of Windows?
I have another user with the same problem on XP. Turns out his WMI is totally not working, and the firewall depends on the WMI. My repair couldnt get it working because Windows is unable to rebuild it. SO while I am helping him I want to see if you might be in the same boat.
If so I can find out whats going on and get it added to the repair program :-)

Windows 7 Home Basic 64-bit
-
OK get me a screen shot of the files and sizes in this folder
C:\Windows\System32\wbem\Repository
Here is what mine looks like :-)
Shane
-
Im Afraid its quite Similar....
-
Then yours may not be a wmi problem but something else. Lets do a quick test to confirm :-)
My system info tool uses WMI to pull all the information. If WMI is working then the program should pull all the fino, try it out and let me know

Yup it worked and all my Info was logged.
Do you require an upload of the .txt file?
Thank you for all of your Help in this vexing situation !
-
I dont need the txt file, as long as it had the info then WMI is working. :-)
So now the fun part, finding out what part in the system isnt working lol.
Is there anything errors in the event viewer that might help point us in the right direction to start looking?

Kay ive found these two always occurring when i try to start Windows Firewall Service from services.msc
-
Perfect :-)
Try this first and lets see how it goes.

Kay i know its not a low memory case.
Does that mean its a registry is corrupted case?
So no way of tackling this problem?
-
Always a way :-)
Lets try disabling the logging that it is doing first

I didnt get you, should i diable the Event logging or Enable it?
-

Lets try disabling the logging that it is doing first

Okay done and on trying to start Windows Firewall i got an Error in CMD (in pic)
-
The windows firewall service looks like it is missing. My repair puts that back, so if it is missing again then something deleted it.
Lets do some quick scans.
Run this rootkit tool
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/mbar/
and this one
http://support.kaspersky.com/5350?el=88446
Let me know if they find anything :-)
Shane
-
No Malware found (By both Programs) :cheesy:
Or wait should i be sad...
-
You may have deeper problems.
But there is a way to get it all fixed in one shot without doing a factory reset :-)
Lets do a repair install, this way you can keep all your programs and settings.
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html
And to do that you will need a Windows 7 disk with SP1 already on it, you can grab that here

Will this Wipe off all the Data on my Hard Drive? (the one where Software is installed)
How much Time will it take?
Thanks alot!
-
Nope. It is basically doing an upgrade to the same version. So all data is in place :-)
Make sure to read the directions. Windows simply gets reinstalled while keeping all your data.
Of course always good to have a backup just in case.

What are the risks if i do this without a backup (coz i dont have an external Hard disk)
Also the 'Product key' of Windows they are talking bout is same as the one stuck on the bottom of my laptop right?
-
Yes on the product key.
The only risk is if something goes nuts and you cant get back into Windows, doesnt really happen. If the repair install fails it simply puts it back to what it was. Your data doesnt get wiped no matter what as long as your hard drive is good of course lol.

Okay im almost ready to do this..
But in the links you sent me, there is no option for Windows 7 Home Basic Version. Where can i get that for download ?
Also what does that (bootable) mean
-
Grab the home premium one. Then you will have to do an edit to make it show every verion during setup :-)

One of the Warnings before Doing the repair is...
You must have at least 8.87 GB + what is currently being used of free space, more if you have a larger installation, on the hard drive/partition Windows 7 is installed on to do a repair install.
Does this mean i should have 8.87 + 400GB free space if say im using 400 GB(movies games etc) on my C drive?
-
No, it means for Windows itself. Windows just by itself is dang near 10 gb.
It doesnt make a copy from last time I checked. You should be fine
Give it a try, Windows will warn you if it needs more space.
