Windows Update says there are 9 Updates + 1 optional update which are available to be downloaded and installed. Those updates are listed below. One of these has now been installed. The others have not.
N.B. Originally there were 11 updates which were unable to install. Since I have had this problem, 3 have installed. At the same time Windows shows that there are Updates which are pending ShutDown/Restart. (Windows Power Off button has changed from default of Hibernate to Shut Down with Yellow Shield with Black Exclamation Mark to its left). These updates pending installation are the same 9 updates which Windows Update shows as awaiting downloading and installation.
The 9 Updates are listed below:-

It appears that a number of important system files have been corrupted and need to be replaced with uncorrupted versions. It will also be necessary to identify the cause of this, if possible.
I will provide you with all other information which you ask for.
BEST WISHES
Nick Rogers

Looks like those are not installing because they are reading the corrupt files and as soon as an update gets an error it will just bomb out and not install.
So we need to get those files replaced. Do me a fav and send me a reminder email tomorrow, and I will see if I have those files, been slammed lately so sorry for the late reply :-)
Shane
-
Ok I got the files. Also looks like KB2949927 was pulled and is a bad update, so you can ignore the pre-scan complaining about those.
I have attached the files, put them in the "C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\" folder. You will need to take ownership of that folder first, if you need help doing that let me know :-)
Shane
-
Shane - Thank you for your reply and the copies of the .cat and .mum files.
Kindly give me precise instructions for taking ownership of the c:\windows\servicing\packages\ folder. I want to be sure precisely what you mean by establishing ownership for this exercise.
Where else might I have obtained copies of the corrupted .cat and .mum file?
What might have corrupted these .cat and .mum files?
I do believe that there may have been MalWare on the computer in question, even though it appears to be clean now N.B. It is protected by Norton Internet Security.
I do post on Windows BBS and will be letting its' management know that I am posting on your BBS as well. It was Evan Omo of Windows BBS who put me on to Tweaking.Com. This appears to be a very useful bit of software, by the way.
Best Wishes
Nick Rogers ()
P.S. I assume that I unzip the Cat_Mum_Files.zip file to the c:\windows\servicing\packages\ folder after I have taken ownership of it.
-
Best if you remove your e-mail address from the open forum as you never know what sort of whackos will drop in and may even try to hack or spam it.
-
Here you go
http://www.tweaking.com/articles/pages/add_quottake_ownershipquot_to_right_click_menu_in_vista_amp_7,1.html
Download the Take_Ownership.zip file and then apply the reg file inside of it. This will add a take ownership menu item to the right click menu. Go to the c:\windows\servicing\packages folder and right click on it and click take ownership, that will do the trick and to all the files inside. Then you can extract the zip file with the cat and mum files and put them in there.
Then get the new version of my windows repair, run the pre-scan again but before you do put a check on the box to have it add the cat files back.
Then once done see how the Windows updates do. The pres scan should still show the bad update as being corrupt, but all the others should be clear, then we can see how Windows updates likes it :-)
