Tweaking.com Support & Help / New version Registry Backup says VSS not running, old version works fine (XP)

Hi,

Have used registry backup for years without problems. Decided to update to newest version 3.5.3 but it wouldn't detect VSS as running on XP SP3 and failed to backup with fallback method disabled. Uninstalled it and installed v. 1.6.7, it detected VSS as running and successfully backed up the registry with fallback method disabled.

Hi again,

I've just discovered since installing Fedora 19 on another hard drive that restoring the registry does not work when you reboot. I'm running XP HE SP3 (fresh install and completely updated) and using Tweaking.com Registry Backup 1.6.1 and shadow copy seems to be working perfectly.

Is there a way to make the registry restore with Grub2 installed on the MBR or would I be better served by Erunt? I have no idea if it would restore the registry correctly with Grub2 installed either, but am looking for ideas.

I'm trying to make the switch to Linux before support for XP lapses at the end of June next year, but this issue is bothering me and I need some advice.

I'm trying to keep Windows XP for my compatible programs and (especially) games and I'm going to use Linux for web activities. Hoping SteamOS comes out soon and that it's as great as anticipated.

General Computer Support / Volume Shadow Copy not running XP HE SP3

Hello,

I was having some computer problems so I ran Windows Repair (All in One) v1.9.18 and it seems to have fixed many problems I was having (blue screens), but now my Tweaking.com Registry Backup won't use Volume Shadow Copy. It flashes a green "yes" that it's running for just a second then turns red again and says "no".

What services are required for VSS to run in Windows XP Home Edition SP3 and what may I do to fix it so that Registry Backup can successfully backup my registry using VSS?

Hello,

I have had a conflict between Tweaking.com Registry Backup and another startup program for some time and I finally took it upon myself to figure out which one it was.

The problem manifested itself by causing Registry Backup to crash, not every time, but once in a while.

The program that Registry Backup conflicted with is a mouse software program called razerhid.exe.

I fixed the problem by using Winpatrol to delay the startup of razerhid.exe by twenty seconds, since then, no more problem.

Just thought you would like to know.

I use XP SP3, 32 bit.
