Title: Windows 7 32 Bit crashing.
Post by: DarthAscension on July 23, 2015, 04:32:57 pm
I am typing this for my father he is having issues with windows 7 32 bit after the July 20th 2015 windows update and so far nothing has solved the issues.

The Tweaking.com windows repair gave this response after the scan:

Tweaking.com - Windows Repair v3.2.5 - Pre-Scan
Computer: GIULIO-PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1) (32-bit)

Scanning Windows Packages Files.

These Files Are Missing: (Total: 2)
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_30_for_KB3003743~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.1.cat
C:\Windows\servicing\Packages\Package_32_for_KB3003743~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.1.1.1.cat

Problems were found with the packages files, these files need to be replaced (These mainly only effect installing Windows Updates.)
The SFC (System File Checker) doesn't scan and replace some of these files, so you may need to replace them manually.
These files do not keep the repairs from working, you may still run the repairs in the program.

If you need help in replacing these files, post on the Forums at Tweaking.com for help.

Scan Complete - Problems Found!

You can use the Repair Reparse Points or Repair Environment Variables tools at the bottom of this Window if needed.

While problems have been found, you can still run the repairs in the program.
But for the best results it is recommended to fix the problems reported in this scan if possible.
If you need help fixing any of the items in the log, just post in the forums at Tweaking.com for help.

Any help at this point would be good.

Have you gone ahead and ran all the repairs yet? Also did you make sure ot run them in windows safe mode if you have? The pre-scan wont keep the repairs from working :-)

Hello Shane,

Yes we ran the repairs but not in safe mode, the computer still has issues and crashes. We will run the tweaking repairs in safe mode asap and get back to the forum with results.

Hello Shane,

We ran the repairs in safe mode (it took significantly longer this way) and the computer now has been crashing worse. Currently the computer will allow a log in but them sit at a black screen.

We are looking for help on how to manually fix those missing files it seems the program is unable to do it.

As you can get into Safe Mode, have you tried the restore points prior to the Windows Updates ?

My install date for KB3003743 on my Win 7 x64 is 10th June so not sure if that Package error is a contributing cause.

The computer before all this had multiple restore points but now the windows recovery / restore says it cannot see any. It seems that many scans and repairs cannot be completed in safe mode according to the log in both tweaking repair tool and standard windows trouble shooting scans.

The 20th July update was for KB3079904 - so go to Installed Updates and in the top right search box type in that and when it is displayed, right click on it and select Uninstall and then see how your father's computer performs.

I've done a Google on that update and found it has caused various problems for some, so hopefully uninstalling it will resolve your father's problems.

After uninstalling it you'll be presented with it again - just right click on it and select Hide.

Lets get a chkdsk done and see if there is any bad sectors.

Open a cmd.exe window as administrator and put this in

chkdsk C: /r

it will say the drive is in use and would you like to schedule it, hit "Y" and enter and then reboot. The chkdsk should start before Windows loads, it is a 5 stage process with stage 4 and 5 taking the longest.

Once it is done the results will be in the even viewer, post the results for me.
