Hi. I have a very strange issue.  I just upgraded to the newest release of Windows 10 (Redstone), and now, I can't run anything off my external hard drive.  I believe it has something to do with UAC, because after I disabled it, I could run the software from my external, however, none of the built in Microsoft apps would run, as Windows thought I was using the built-in Administrator account (this would only happen with UAC disabled). With UAC enabled, I would get an access denied error.  So, I'm at the point where I have to choose between the built in Microsoft apps or the ability to run installers form my external hard drive, however I shouldn't have to choose.  I Should be able to access everything on my PC, without any issues.  I've already tried playing with the drive permissions, to no avail.  Does anyone have any other ideas on how to remedy this?

When referring to "Line 1" and "Line 2", I was referring to the phone lines on my CABLE modem (not the modem in question).  I have both the voice and the fax lines running to the modem and their respective devices (I had the fax plugged into the "LINE" port and the voice line plugged into the "PHONE" port).  Everything was working fine until I plugged the voice line into the PCI modem (the modem in question), then everything went crazy. So I just ended up unplugging the voice line ("Line 1" from my cable modem) from the "PHONE" port on my PCI modem, and now everything is working again.  However, I would like to know, is there a PCI x1 modem out there that can handle 2 separate phone lines (one voice and one fax)?

I recently bought a "PCIe Soft Data Fax SoftRing Modem with SmartCP", and attempted to hook it up to both my fax machine and my landline (which are using two separate phone lines), and now, when I can't receive calls, and when I place them, the two phone lines become one (the caller ID shows up as my fax number, however both lines are being used, simultaneously).   Just to get confusion out of the picture, let me describe this portion of my setup in detail: I have "Line 1" (my landline) split between the modem and the phone itself, and "Line 2" (the fax) split between the fax machine and the modem.  So, yes, I have two separate phone lines going into a single modem, and would like a solution on how to get it to work without having to buy more hardware (additional software welcome).  Any suggestions?

Thanks again Boggin, will look into it. Should I buy a new PSU as well, considering the amount of stress the current one has been under?

Thanks Boggin, looks like I'm on the hunt for a replacement motherboard for his PC, and considering the type (HP Pavilion Slimline), I don't think it will be easy to find or install.

Didn't think of that, thanks Shane! BTW, I already swapped out CPUs, so that wasn't an issue.  Power supply is aftermarket, so that could be an issue.  Motherboard is the most likely culprit, though (I'm in over my head, but hey, big payday when this is all said and done!).  I still have the original power supply, but replaced it because it would get really hot really fast, put this new power supply seems to do the same thing. Should I try the original power supply (it handles less power, but I've added more to the PC since)?  Finally, some progress!  Thanks again, Shane!

Monitor works.  As I keep stating, I have no video output.  How do I fix the PC as to regain video output?  Bear in mind this is for a friend of mine, as I mentioned in the initial post.

Yes, onboard and external (PCI), both of which display nothing.

I don't get any video at all, not even the BIOS displays.  So, what you suggested will not work.  Is there any other way I can get the video output to work (preferably outputted to the PCI card)?

By "unformatted" hard drive, I mean exactly what I say: not formatted, blank, NO OS.  I ordered it, received it , installed it.  After about 2-3 hours of struggling to get the damn machine to even power on, I succeeded at that, but without any video output.  Now, in this case, I should be presented with the BIOS screen first, then the Windows installation should start to load.  However, IF this IS happening, I can't see it happening.  Please help.

I am fixing a computer for a friend, and ran into a very interesting scenario.  The computer boots (or acts as such; all lights come on, fan spinning NORMALLY, not excessively loudly, even the optical drive shows activity as it should).  But, as the title suggests, I never get any video. No BIOS screen (I won't get any further than that because I just installed a unformatted hard drive in the machine). I even tried Installing a PCI video card to see if the onboard video was having issues (as rare as that is, I know it CAN happen), without any luck.  All out of ideas, and almost out of options, I am reaching out to the cyberworld for help.

For the record, the computer I'm fixing is an HP Pavilion Slimline S3321P.

I've only previously tried safe mode with networking, so yes, i would get a BSOD there, as well.  Just took your advice, and it worked like a charm!  When reinstalling Teamviewer, should I omit the VPN adapter from installation, or is that safe to install now?

It's been a couple of days now, and no reply.  For the record, I have yet to hear back from Teamviewer support, as well.  I rely heavily on Teamviewer, so someone's help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the WhoCrashed Report:

On Tue 12/9/2014 2:45:24 AM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\120814-106656-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x1509A0)
Bugcheck code: 0x139 (0x3, 0xFFFFD00106E1A450, 0xFFFFD00106E1A3A8, 0x0)
Error: KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: NT Kernel & System
Bug check description: The kernel has detected the corruption of a critical data structure.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

Any hope of avoiding a complete windows reinstall?

Ok, so before I dig myself a hole, let me clarify my situation.  This is a Teamviever related issue, and I know it should be redirected to their support, but I've been back and forth with them for days, only to have them tell me to "uninstall my old version completely and attempt to reinstall the new one again", repeatedly. There are two issues with their "solution".  The version they are telling me to uninstall wasn't the one I was using prior to the issues starting, and their instructions completely miss the issue at hand.  The issue I'm having is not with a corrupt software installation, it's with a corrupt network adapter and it's associated driver.  Every time I attempt to install/uninstall Teamviewer, it goes fine, until it gets to the installation/uninstallation of the VPN Network Adapter.  Even if I try to uninstall it manually, same result.  I get a BSOD with a error code 0x139 (KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE). For the record, I am running Windows 8.1 Pro x64.  Any ideas on how to rectify this issue and get Teamviewer back up and running (without having to do what would be my 4th Windows reinstall in the last 3 months) would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

As far as I can tell, just the Local Security Policy Editor gives me this error.

Everything Else / Re: Bootable CD

There is a feature in another bootable repair disc that allows loading an offline windows registry for use with it's interface, and thus, it's set of tools.  If that feature can somehow be incorporated into this possible boot disc, that would solve the problem.

Hi, I continue to have an issue opening the Local Security Policy Editor via the Administrative Tools menu via the Start Menu.  I get the following error message, after conforming a UAC Prompt: An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist.

What does that error message mean, and how do I fix it?  Using Windows 7 64-Bit.

You said if I get no beeps, it's either the MB or the CPU? I just replaced the MB, and I'm hoping to the high heavens it's not the CPU.  Would you still recommend attempting to replace/upgrade my power supply?  FYI, I currently have a 300 Watt, and I had 2 graphics cards, a quad core CPU, a 1 TB HDD, 4 2GB sticks of RAM, two optical drives, plus numerous external components.  Is it posible I overloaded the Power Supply and/or CPU?

Hi. I have a very odd, but common to HP issue.  My HP Pavilion Elite HPE-400f (no longer warranted and no longer eligible for their free repair service) will power on but that's about it.  All the components get power, however i get no video output, and the system board wont beep.  I replaced the system board, just to get the power button to turn the computer off instead of jut turning it on (only noticeable change).  The computer still won't POST.   When I unplugged everything and gutted it down to the bare essentials and powered it up, i noticed the green ethernet light half lit.  Does that signify anything?  Here's a link to a page where someone has an almost identical problem: http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/898138.aspx  Can the processer really go bad, or is it my power supply?

that's the exact setup I had.  the routers were in effect hooked together via the powerline adapter. router A's ip was .1.1 and router b's ip was .1.2
