Title: UAC (WIN7) does not regognize IE11 Flashplayer
Post by: theaustrian on January 18, 2015, 03:12:44 am
My IE11 does not recognize Adobe Flashplayer
Checking the add ons this add on is shown as disabled without the chance to enable it.
Homepages including vids on Flashplayer basis inform me that there is no flashplayer installed.
Windows repair (all in one) was not able to fix that problem.
A new user account revealed that it did work with it.
Is there any one who knows how to fix it?

There are some steps in this article that you could try but having ActiveX Filtering enabled is the usual suspect. http://www.thewindowsclub.com/flash-not-working-in-internet-explorer

Thanks for the reply, BUT active X filtering is NOT enabled, the ocx. element is in available windows32.
Flashplayer works properly with a new created user account but NOT with the regular one.
The information is NO FLASHPLAYER INSTALLED or NOT LATEST VERSION INSTALLED.

So my question is: Where do I find the problem and how to fix it??

Do you mean that you made a new user account and it works fine there, but on your normal account it doesnt work?

If so then that tells me the problem is going to be in the registry under the hkey_current_user (Which is for the current user account and is different for each account)

You can also go to internet options in the control panel, go to advanced and click reset to have IE reset itself back to default. It is very possible it is just a simple setting that got out of whack that is causing it

Hi Shane,

you are right. It works with the new user account but not with the standard account.
A reset of IW did not solve this.

So probably there is something not correct in the registry.
Where there do I find the keys there and after finding them what to do then?

The two main areas for the current user profile are stored in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

So what I would do is export both those keys out first, as a backup and then delete them. Then once deleted reboot or log off and then log back in and then do the reset again (So that the defaults are put back) and see how that does. If anything gets worse or doesnt work you can just import the reg files you exported. Or you can just use my registry backup program to backup and restore as well

Hi Shane,

thanks for your comments.
Can you please tell me where exactly in these two folders I will find the responsible keys?
A first glance did not show me there a folder/folders named USER ACCOUNT(s) or similar.
A you able to let me have the exact key(s) there responsible for that fault and what to do then to solve it?
How the proper key(s) should look like?

Thank you

You just open the registry editor (regedit) and go to them there. They are not folders, they are registry key locations :-)

Shane,

what I found there is shown in the attachments.
Are you able to identify the respective key(s) and how to correct them?

Thanks for your support.

Right click on the folder in the registry on the left side, example right click on "Internet Settings"

Choose export and save the file, then do the same thing to the other section. Once done delete those two sections. Do not delete anything before them.

Then once done do a reboot and then once back up go to internet options, advanced and do a reset. Then test it and see how it does :-)

If you dont feel comfortable doing that, you can go into the other user account you made where it works and export those two keys out so I can compare them to your current ones and see what I find to be different.

Yes Shane you're right I don't comfortable changing things in the registry.
So I decided to post the files from the new user (please see the attachments)
All looks very confusing and I request you to compare both.
Hopefully this will reveal the problem and finally the solution.

Thanks for your patience and support.

There are a lot of differences between those. And is most likely where the problem is.

So what you will do is be logged into the user account that needs fixed, open the registry editor and go to that location. Then open the screen shot you took from the good user account. I then want you to remove any of the registry keys that are not in that screen shot

Which of these two should I go to and remove keys or should I remove keys in both?

- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

Both show differences between old and new user account.

Both, basically get them synced to where yours is the same as the new account.

Shane

I deleted all keys in the Registry (both sections) for the old account not shown for the new user - BUT no changes at all.
The old problem is still there.
Do you have any other ideas to solve it???

Ok so a IE reset didnt fix it, and all the settings where synced and still didnt fix it.

So I wonder if it might be a permissions error on the files and folders instead of the registry.

I forget, did I have you run my windows repair and do the first 2 repairs which is the permissions for the registry and files? If you did, did you make sure to run it under the account that is having trouble?

Hi Shane,

I again checked the registry folders you told me (old account) and found that there again where several keys I deleted before.
I deleted them like before using the new account as template.
The respective files after this correction are attached. (both user acounts).
BTW: How is it possible to synch these two registry folders??
I did a reset of IE again an at present (3rd time) your windows repair (latest version) is still running (old account).
I'll keep you informed on this.

You told me that perhaps could be a permission error on files or folders.
What and where should I look for it?

When you ran my windows repair did you run all the repairs or only a few?

This might be why MS's only fix they list for this is to make a new user account and move the users data over to it instead. Looks like it might not be a permissions or settings problem but instead something messed up in the registry for the current user.

Hi Shane,

I restarted your windows repair several hours ago (with all options except option 2 (=reset file permissions).
Opt 4 (=Repair WMI) is still running (for more than 6 hours) now.
Checking the log file I found the error code 0x8007007E, but it is still running.
Is there a loop or anything else wrong? Do you have any idea what this means?
I'll keep the program running till tomorrow.
And: How can we solve the original problem?
Assistance is highly appreciated.

Why did you skip the file permissions repair? That was one of the main ones I wanted to make sure was ran :-)

As for the wmi repair, it can take while depending on the speed of the system. Normally running it in safe mode is best as it speeds things up a lot not having 3rd party programs in the way.

Shane,

I ran windows repair in safe mode for the old account (all options).
Sorry no changes - still the same old problem!
Any ideas concerning the reason and how to serve this nasty item?!?!

I am running out of ideas to have you try other than making a new user account and moving the files over to that account. Which is the fastest fix since we know it has something to do with the profile.

I could dig in more if I connected to you and took a look at it. Just have to find a time we are both on and I have a few free min to take a look

Hi Shane,

I already made a new user account just to compare and to user the flashplayer.
I very much appreciate your help and offer.
I am flexible so it is up to you how and when to go ahead.
Pls. keep in mind that the present time here in central Europe is 7.00 p.m.
A night shift does not cause me problems.
So just let me have your proposal.

Very nice! And it shows me what registry keys the problem was located at.

I am feeling sick today, with my 4 girls being sick and I am about to call it a day and go crawl into bed. Do me a fav and shoot me a reminder post in a day or so, that way I will remember to look over this more and those registry keys.
