Hi.I'm coming again to this forum because i'm sure that you will help me again to resolve several windows problems.
This time the issue is the Microsoft security essentials. When i click it nothing happens. It was working properly and i didnt install a new security program.I try uninstall and reinstall with no luck.I try to run yours repair tool with: reset file permission, register system files, repair wmi and remove policies, but the problem didn't resolve.
-
Did you run the restore important services repair? The windows defender service is part of that one
Shane

it doesn't help
-
Try running all the repairs. Also what version of Windows are you on?
Shane
-
win 7 32 ultimate
-
Yeah run all the repairs, make sure antivirus is off and make sure to do a reg backup with the program first :-)

how to disable the antivirus?i dont have access to it,even at service list there is no option to start or stop it.
I run all repairs with no luck. Also i run sfc.
I start the windows in safe mode and the MSE runs corectly.I made a scan with it and malwarebytes and TDSS with no luck also.

1. Make sure the Services "Windefend" and "MsMpSvc" are running and set to "Start= Auto". Windows Repair allows you to set the start up state of a number of services ("Set services to Default Startup").
2. In "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client" open the program "msseces.exe". That opens the MS Security Essentials program.
-
1) "Windefend" probably you mean "windefender" . The service is stopped and i cant start it. the desc says: < failed to read description.Error code: 1168 >
the other service "MsMpSvc" i cant locate something like this.
"windows Repair allows you to set the start up state of a number of services ("Set services to Default Startup"). " what you mean ?
2) the app wont start.

Try uninstalling Microsoft security Essentials, reboot, then run all my repairs, reboot and try to install Microsoft security Essentials again.
Does everything else work in Windows? like Windows updates and the Windows firewall?
Reason why I ask is if for some reason you are still infected then my repairs will be no good as every time it fixies something the virus would just undo it again.
Such as deleting services, which a lot of viruses do.
Try Malwarebytes Anti Rootkit tool
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/mbar/
Let me know if it finds anything

i uninstall, run the repair's and install again the MSE with no luck. Also i Run the mbar with no luck also...
Windows update's and firewall working properly.
Still i cant locate MsMpSvc on services list but i can locate on task manager/services
-
MsMpSvc is the security essentials service. Since security essentials isnt installed you dont have the service.
The windefend is the service name for the built in windows defender.
What is the exact error that you get when you try to install it, and can you find a install log? If I could see what it is complaining about I can find a fix :-)

Hi shane.I dont get any error while i install the MSE.I install it successfully but i can't open it.
I'm getting an error while i try to start windefend service from the service list (< failed to read description.Error code: 1168 > )
-
failed to read description.Error code: 1168
That means that the error description is located in a dll file from the program. But that file is missing so it cant pull to say what the error is.
And the setup doesnt give an error and says everything installed fine. Which sounds like something on the system is deleteing the files (An infection)
Have you tried combofix.exe yet?

i send you the log file from the combofix.

Well besides a few crap toolbars I dont see anything bad.
I myself use Avast. See if it works for you. When you install avast free make sure to do custom install. Then uncheck everything and only install the file shield and behavior shield.

I'm not using avast any more after many years of using it because it's to heavy for my system.
however,i follow those instructions in part one and my MSE is now back to Business :)
